Hi!
I just got a Lanksy Pro kit, both serrated hones, and Super Sapphire. I have a Kabar tanto and Camillus Cuda tanto (the assisted opening one from 3 years ago right before they released the Lev-R-Lok) and I wanted to know the best way to sharpen them from Extra Coarse to Sapphire. Also my Cuda's blade is very thick (0.15)and the angle is rather steep. Will this affect the sharpening process?

Hi,
If you really want to sharpen them don't evev let them touch the Lansky!
Go buy an Edge Pro.

Well seeing as I don't have $200 - $300 I have to make do. And I already odered it. And I didn't want a crock (heh crock of spit - sorry couldn't resist;) ) style like Spyderco's Sharpmaker - too hard.

If you cant get a knife sharp on a lansky, then you're doing something terribly wrong. It's a wonderful system that will sharpen most any knife.

Well its pretty intuitive... Basically start on the course or extra course if reprofiling; medium if edge is in good shape but not polished), and use the best angle guide hole. You can move the blade in or out of the clamp slightly to help ge the right angle.

Then basically just sharpen on that stone until you raise a bur on both sides then step down to the next finest stone and repeat until yo are through all your stones and it'll shave. Trick is to make sure not to use too much pressure after you raise the first burr.

It really is very easy and simple, a few minutes on it and you'll get it.

the tanto makes it easier, because its a straight line. Just remember that you sharpen it as two different blades, the regular edge and the point edge separate. Although, I'd just convex it, thats way easier with a tanto grind.

Yeah, that tutorial is awesome, great advice there! Just remember, do the two edges separate.

So I clamp it in two seperate places? And imagine if MSCantrell had the UltraFine and Sapphire stones  Or am I incorrect in thinking that the Sapphire is used to get that last extra sharp edge in?

Clamp it like you see in the pics and you'll be fine. Just once.

The yellow ultrafine stone is a great finishing stone. It's the finest stone I have for the lansky before stropping on a piece of loaded leather.

You made me go and order the sapphire stone. Supposed to be a super high grit finishing stone. The yellow ultrafine stone is smooth as glass. The sapphire stone is supposed to be even finer than the ultrafine (damn), and yes, it should polish the edge to a mirror finish.

Midsouth Shooters Supply has the best prices I've seen for Lansky. I was able to get the Deluxe set with ex-course (black) to ultra fine (yellow), medium and fine serrated stones, Sapphire stone and the metal stand all for $65.65 shipped  :D
Direct from Lansky would be $104.95 w/o shipping
