hello all,

I am going to be the proud owner of a 12" sirupati and was wondering if the lansky angle guide sharpening system would work for keeping this knife sharp?
i know pull thru systems wont work cause of the width of the blade. I am not capable of doing it free hand and dont want to mess up my blade.

also, do i need the diamond sharpening set or will the regular set work better on 5160 steel?

thanks for your help.

It shouldnt need much sharpening but I touch up mine with 600 grit sandpaper and a sanding block

I do that as well, the sandpaper system works good. The key to a sharp knife is don't let it get dull. Same with a chainsaw chain. Most folks run em till they won't cut and lose the angle and it's tough to get sharp. Touch it up a few times during the work day and it'll stay a cutting machine.

I did try my Lansky out just to see if I could get it on there. Had to use the provided longer mount screw and the longer little tension screw. It went on, I didn't do a lot with it, was just seeing if it would fit.

I don't think it would fit on like an AK etc. Just too thick.

I do the same as Dirtbiker. You may want to put a piece of masking tape across the blade 1/4" from the edge or so to spine so you dont scratch up your new finish until you get the angle right and get the feel of it. I perosnally dont think a guide system would work well for convex edge but may wait for some expert opinions on that on. Sandpaper and mousepad is cheap and easy to carry camping. Chakmak tool that comes with it will keep the edge sharp for quite some time before you even need to sharpen.
