My quest for free hand perfection was greatly halted by the ease of the Lansky guided system. Although not as noble I like it quite a bit and its working for me.
I don't know if the arkansas stone is new or just new to me but I was wondering if anyone has used it and their thought on it. Also whether or not it could be beneficial to me. I have the 5 stone system (black extra course - yellow ultra fine) and the blue sapphire (which I use before the yellow) and the strop as well. Where would i fit the arkansas in if i were to get it and is it going to be helpful?

Yellow Ultra fine is 1000 grit. Blue sapphire is 2000 grit. I have those two as part of the system I built up.

They have three arkansas stones.
Natural Black hard which is 1200 to 1400 grit. Which I have.
Natural Hard (450 - 650 grit).
Natural Soft (200 - 350 grit).

The natural Black hard would seem to fit between your ultra fine and the blue sapphire which is how I've arranged mine. I Sharpied the grit on the Blue at the top. And you can see the sharpie on the arkansas stone has smudged out.

Just for transparency, I don't use the Lansky system anymore. I have moved to free hand stones. If the Lansky system is working for you, great!

I have the Diamond, Arkansas and Ceramic hones and use them in the grit progression as I move from medium diamond, I use the coarse to reprofile, through to the Sapphire Blue ceramic hone then stropping with the black/green Bark River compounds...I get a very sharp edge with a nice polish without hours of effort.
