Hi folks, not sure if something like this already exists but I put together an MS Excel spreadsheet so I could figure out how to get accurate angles on my Lansky sharpener if I wanted to. I dont want to debate the importance of getting accurate angles as it's not the most important thing. However, for people that do want to take a stab, maybe this workbook will help you. The way it works is you input your blade thickness, blade width, and the amount of protrusion that the blade will extend out from the clamps and the spreadsheet will give you the angle for each hole. I was hoping to create a spreadsheet where you could input the desired angle and have it generate the blade distance but I haven't quite figured out what it would take. Anyway, the way it is now gets the job done. You just have to experiment with the amount of protrusion.

I know there are known measurements for the Lansky hole heights and such floating around the forums and the internet but I was looking for something to do so I tried to measure the distances as accurately as possible using my flatbed scanner and then measuring the distances with software (Photoshop). Anyway, I'm sure there are minor differences in clamps/tools so your Lansky may not be exactly the same. I just purchased mine last week and it looks a bit different than some of the ones I've seen pictures of online. Anyway, if you're that anal, you can substitute my numbers with your own and have at it but for all intents and purposes it should be fine with my measurements. I explain which values to change in the notes section of the workbook.

Please let me know if this works out for those of you that are interested in this sort of thing. If there are any errors in the workbook please let me know and I'll correct them. I tried to put some validation in the workbook that would warn you if you tried to enter a protrusion distance that was greater than the width of the knife. It also warns you when the amount of knife you need to clamp is less that 1/4 of the width as well.
