Hi,

I recently bought a set of Lansky diamond stones. The XC cuts really well but the corse just skids over the knife edge without cuting. I lookd it under a hi power lens and it is full of flat shiny nikle areas. The medium and fine are a bit better but not as good as me Ezelaps or DMT. I dresed the stones on a strip of #80 belt sander but no real improvemnt. the flat shiny areas just got biger.

Have I got duds? anybody had a similar expirience?

Regards
Frank

yes, I found that the diamond stones on the Lansky wear very quickly, I got rid of mine.....

Hi,

Thanks for your replies. Maybe I was lucky, but so far had a pretty decent run from my XC diamond stones.

From what you say, seems like that their quality is all over the place. Their yellow ceramic stones are all warped too.

I've got a Course Gatco Diamond hone for a couple of years no problems .Maybe Lansky uses Polycrystalline Diamonds, which tend to wear away with use and need replacement more often.
The Gatco and DMT's advertise that they use Monocrystalline (Industrial Quality) diamonds;single crystals structure which are superior to Polycrystalline Diamonds which DMT says is a fragmented compound that breaks apart with use.www.dmtsharp.com/general/whydiamond.htm

Hi razorburn,

Looking under a hi power lens it seems as if my dud stones have too much nikle plated on with the diamond. Large flat ares that stop the diamond from biting the steel. Crappy quality control. Same with their ceramic stones. My earlier diamond stone cut well and lasted well. Next time I buy one I will look at it with a hi powr lens before paying.

Mine is the exact same the XC cuts very well then my C diamondstone just skids right over the egde i also think something is wrong with it, the M stone actually cuts better. $65 for half junk is not good in anyones book.

Hi fastcamo,

You are dead right. I think that they released a bad batch.

IMHO Lansky is a very good system but they sure could improve their quality control. The warped ceramic stones I can fix by rubing on a DMT diamond stone, but the Lansky diamond stone can't be helped.
