Lansky Diamond stones

I was just tuning up my S90V Military with a Lansky Diamond set and the X-Fine (really not that fine!!) and had a big nugget of diamond on the stone that ground huge notches in the edge ( i say huge, but they were big enough). I ended up using the 2 finest stones from the regular Lansky set and got most of them out. Has anybody had similar experience with Lansky diamonds? Do the big nuggets ever fall off and let you get a decent grind? I got the diamond set for S90V and ZDP, and hope they won't be a bust.

When the Lansky kits first came out, I got one as a gift. It never really impressed me, and one of the stones broke before long. I abandoned it and went with a DMT diamond-impregnated bench stone and 12-inch steel....that combo has kept my blades happy for the last 20 years....

I tried the regular on my ZDP E4, and they didn't do so good. Am considering returning the diamond set because they are so much rougher than i need in general and the X-FIne has that big lump that scratches the edge so bad

I don't like that the guide rods for my stones have worn a groove in the angle guide clamp. The Lansky stones work great for me but the aluminum clamp is too cheaply made. I'm going to try out the Spyderco sharpening system next.

The Spyderco Sharpmaker is a very good system, but if you are going to spend money time after time searching for the 'right' system, save your money (in the long run,) and buy an EdgePro Apex right now. You will NEVER buy another sharpening kit. As I said, Spyderco makes a 'good' one, Gatco makes a 'good' one, etc., etc., but EdgePro makes a "GREAT" one! Any size blade, any shape, any angle. It's just that simple. :)
