Hi,

I am about to buy a Lansky sharpening system, and I've noticed there are different types of clamps:

The first one has an extra thumb screw, eliminating the need to use a screwdriver, and it seems to have some kind of padding on the tips. But I haven't found it in any of the you-tube videos I've been watching and I am afraid this is a new type and might not be as good as the old one. It also looks like a mold while the old one seems CNCed (but maybe I'm wrong).

Does anyone here have any experience with the new type? Any other information that can help me decide between the two? Both are available on-line and I want to make the right choice.

Thanks, Davidka

I have the older clamp. I use masking tape on the blade to prevent scaring the blade and for better grip. With thicker blades, you have to make sure the blade is beyond the cut out groove or else the clamp will not hold. I would think the newer is better because of the deeper cut out groove will allow a good grip on the blade and the liner will prevent and marking on the blade. Also with the two tightening knobs, it will allow a parallel alignment with the blade.

Thanks for replying. The new one looks good to me too but I would love to hear from someone who owns it. Anyone?

I have the new one with two thumb screws and it works great. I think is easier because you don't need a screw driver.

Thanks! I have already went ahead and ordered the system. I will return and update when I get it.

There are at least two types without the second thumb screw, they all work, one important thing to remember is to keep the halves of the clamp parallel to each other, an even gap between them from guide to blade.
