It is a manix 2 xl so it’s a bit larger knife so I’ll try that out and see what happensDepending on the length of blade, it could be that you are just working a bit too far from the clamp. You can move the clamp farther down the blade, that will give you a steeper angle nearer the clamp. You kind of want to work within a couple inches each side of the clamp.
Hope this helps.
I don’t mind a wider bevel at the top I just can’t stand the rounded tip it’s just so dull and won’t take a polish no matter what I do so I will try moving the clamp over a bit and see if that improves thank you.yup - anything over about 3.25 inches you start to see that. you also want to be careful not to pull the stone off the end of the point - which will lead to rounding the point some.
but in the past I've made three clamping spots. one near the heel, sharpen both sides - one nearer the point - sharpen both sides; then another in the middle and sort of blend the two together. that does take a while though
mostly, i just find a happy mid point to clamp and live with the wider bevel at the tip -
I’m having trouble with my lansky I seem to have a spot at the tip of my blade where it has a more extreme angle than the rest of my bevel and I don’t want to ruin the knife trying to fix it any advice?
Thank you very much I’ll have to look into itThe problem your describing is a common problem with all guided system's,I have a Hinderer XM-18 with Bowie blade and if the knife has an extreme radius the angle will change and on a knife like the one I just described it can miss a bit of the edge.
The only thing you can do is re-clamp the knife closer to the tip after you have sharpened the rest of the knife,if you ever decide to upgrade to a better guided system look at a Hapstone that use's a table this way you can move the knife and prevent the stone from missing spot's.
Another cheaper option is this new unit they have out,I have never used one but you could use by turning the knife on an angle to get the tip better,it's only 63 bucks.
