I have been using it for a while and get a razor edge on my blades. I just bought some replacement diamond hones, Anyways should I use oil with these or not ? I remember reading somewhere you dont use oil on the diamond hones ,But yet i thought they come with oil when you buy the diamond hone kit. I use oil with them now and it seems to work fine. But let me know if thats right.I also wanted to know why bigger blades dont seem to work as well with the lansky sharpener? Its like you have to do the blade one part at a time.

dmt recommends water with their diamond stones
not sure of the logic
but it might have to do with the oil causing metal to be trapped on the diamond surface instead of flowing off with water

I just picked up a standard Lansky sharpening system to try and keep a good edge on my bm705. For the life of me, I just can't get the sucker as sharp as I would like it. I've been working the medium stone on both sides, then hitting it with the fine one, but i just can't get it to shave. Since you seem to have success with it, can you toss me some tips?

Well I start out with like a medium diamond . Use that till i get the nicks and angle formed . Then i got to the fine till it feels sharp , then i finish up with the ultra fine stone. I always go left to right in a upward motion the intire length of the blade, I start out with a little pressure but when i'm half way done i put none at all on it , i think the trick is to go upward with the stone and make sure you aint going the same way on the other side , when you flip it over you still should be going left to right !I use the 25 degree angle , I think if its a new blade you may have to sharpen it alot to get the new angle on the blade, I dont know if this is right but it works for me :)Oh I allways make sure I clamp the knife the same way every time. blade to the left handle to the right!then when i flip it over its blade on the right handle on the left .

I've been using some DMT stones without anything, absolutely bone dry for about 3 or 4 years and have been getting impressive results.
