Okay, so I have been using my Lansky system to sharpen my knives. Today I picked up a DLC coated Leek and want to make sure this is something that a)I can sharpen with what I have and b) that is isn't going to ruin or significantly reduce the life of my hones.

I have the regular hones, not the diamond hones.

Thank you.

It'll be fine for the edge bevel. I used a 'Deluxe' Lansky kit with the standard hones and a supplemental diamond hone, to re-bevel a ZT-0350 (also DLC coated). The diamond hone was for the S30V. The DLC won't adversely affect your standard hones. DLC is very, very hard, but also very thin. It holds up well to the 'usual' wear & tear, but doesn't get in the way of sharpening the blade.

Awesome. Thank you. I was worried I bit off more than I can chew there for a second.

dont use the lowest angle setting on the lansky or you'll probally scratch up your nice new knife.

I've always used the lowest setting, when it was possible. No issues with scratching the blade, unless one overruns the edge with the hone. As with all good sharpening habits, keep the stroke slow, light and controlled (within length limit of the hone), to avoid doing that. More likely to collide with the clamp at lower angles, with some smaller (narrower) blades.

I usually stick with the 20 and more often the 25 degree angles. I did use the 17 degree once and didn’t have a problem other than, as Obsessed with Edges stated, coming into contact with the clamp.
