Hey guys/gals,

I am looking to get the Lansky Diamond Standard Sharpening System as my first Sharpening system, and probably get the 1000 grit Ultra-Fine ceramic hone along with it. Do I really need the 70 grit diamond hone that Lansky offers? I don't think I will abuse my knives that much, so I don't think I would probably need that.

Also, is the Super Sapphire 2000 grit hone worth getting?

My two knives are Spydero Native 5 Lightweight and the ZT 0393, if that helps.

I find the medium diamond works fine for changing the angle on D2 and S35Vn just fine. You probably would not use the 70 grit much, if at all. I use the fine diamond then 1000 ceramic then leather strop and get an edge I am happy with.

I bought a while back the diamond kit. Its came with the grey purple orange and gold and I bought the yellow ceramic. The sapphire is good if you want a mirror edge. The extra coarse, the grey one in good for reprofiling.

I doubt you would get much use from the 70 grit. The lansky is a good system for small and medium sized blades.

When I've messed up a blade so bad that it needed a high grit to fix, they were big blades that came in contact with rocks or metal, and in those cases I just used a file or grinder and belt.

but on the off chance you want to reprofile or get another knife that needs more work, the extra course may come in handy.

I have the XC through UF basic stones, and the 2000 sapphire - medium and fine diamonds, and multiple strops with diamond pastes

you can do just find with just the set of diamond hones, but I do like to add some polish to mine with the 1000, 2000, and stoprs
