Thanks

I have been using the 20 or 25 bevel ( 2 middle slots)...
Havent tried the 17 yet. Maybe soon

Thanks wh4f. I was thinking about trying the 25 but was wating to see what
the other bucks had to say.

One thing that helps you see if you have the best slot is to color the edge with a black felt pen before you start. Then take a few swipes with the stone and see if you are removing most of the ink. If not, color it again and try another angle. Most likely you will end up re profileing the edge so make sure you use the same slot each time you sharpen your knife and clamp it in the same spot or you will end up reprofiling it every time you use it.
Hope this helps.

I thought we had a "No pun rule" in this forum?

I wish I had my Lansky in front of me but I dont so I am going on what I can remember. Doesn't the clamp have a small "step" on it? The idea is to slide the blade backbone into the clamp up to that step. Wherever it ends up is where it should be. The step is designed to help hold the blade in the same spot. Having said that, I took my clamp to the machine shop and had them regrind it. I wanted it to be a tad deeper and a lot less slick. They left the grind lines in to help hold the blade better.
Looking at a 119 though, if you use the step, the clamp falls into the blood groove right? I think I clamped mine in front of or behiind the blood groove altogether. Its been a while and I might be remembering wrong but give that a try and see if it works. I do know that an issue that you might encounter on the longer blades is that the further away from your clamp you go, the angle changes, especially around the tip. I do remember that I had to sharpen only half the blade, then move the clamp forward to do the rest. Not the best method but it seemed to work ok.
I hope this makes sense enough to help.

Yes it does. Make sense and I see what you mean. Thanks for al
your help. :D

This is also how I did my 119. I usually clamped it first towards the tip end of the blood groove. ( does that make sense?)

It looks like if you clamp it in the middle of the groove it wants
to fall off in the groove,or slide that way.So I guess i will
try the clamping it two places thing. Thanks wh4f.;)

I dont know give it a shot, mine doesnt have a step on the clamp...
But I just screw the thumb screw down tight on the blade and it stays O.k. as long as I dont wiggle the blade alot.

If I just want a FAST edge I use my Klawhorn Redi edge carbide sharpener its slick!

Doesnt leave the nice factory looking bevel though.
