Lansky to "semi convex"?

I was just sharpening up by BK2 with my lansky sharpener, and was wondering if after sharpening the edge at the 20deg angles if dropping to the 15deg angles to take the shoulders off of the edges would be a good idea. I'm not sure if this would help to "semi" convex it or if it would make it worse by adding essentially two shoulders instead of one bigger one. I realize it's not a real convex, but thought it may make for a slightly better slicer. I like the lansky system to sharpen for its ease of use, and was just wondering if anyone else had tried this and if it made a better slicer or if it would be a waste of time.

Convex edges/grinds are suposed to cut better...I still havent been able to do a super perfect reprofile job but from what I have seen they definetly improve cutting power. I'd say go for it I guess...

I have used a stone from my gatco set that is similar to convex a knife. I basically just take the knife and gently rock it while I sharpen it. almost if I am looking to shave off a small layer of the stone. I have gotten some convexes that i am more than happy with that way. It's probably not the most even convex but it is functional.

searching "fiskisking" and "fisk" in general on these boards. good stuff...

Yeah those look pretty sweet, I'll have to get me a slack belt sander. I've got a four inch belt sander but no option for slacking the belt I don't think. I should check and see if there is some way to do it.

What you're talking about doing is actually a "microbevel". Usually you do the low angle one first to get the shoulders really leaned back, then do a few passes at fine-very fine to get the "microbevel" set.

Did it to my War Sword, and it worked great.
