Lansky vs Sharpmaker angles

I'm transitioning from a Lansky to a Sharpmaker. I have a Mini-grip that I put a 25° angle on with the lansky. Using the 40° angle of the sharpmaker I'm hitting the shoulder after the sharpie test. I really don't want to drop the coin on diamond sticks. Is there trick to help me re profile this blade easier with the sharpmaker?

Thanks.

Use the 30 degree setting, no need to reprofile as you are only going to end up taking metal away prematurely. Also, moved from General Knife to MTE (home of sharpening threads, questions, and answers.)

I'm sorry to disagree with the last two posters, but I have to; If the 40 degree setting is hitting the shoulder, the 30 will be worse.

The Lansky tends to hit lower than the indicated number, so I would have guessed the 25 degree setting would have been close to the 40 (inclusive) on the Sharpmaker. You might want to put the knife back into the Lansky and reprofile at the next lower setting (20). That will probably be closer to 15-17 degrees/side. That would be easy to resharpen with the Sharpmaker.

I hope it helps.

Yes the 30 was worse. So the sharpmaker is 40 inclusive, I will reprofile with the lansky @ 20. Good idea, thanks.

Oops. My mistake, I wasn't too attentive when I made the suggestion. wvdavidr is correct, the 40 degree setting is what will be closet to the apex when sharpening. The 30 degree angle will most definitely begin slowly reprofiling.
