Anyone make knife landyards and wants to take pity on a "klutz"? I worked for hours today and can't make a lanyard for the life of me.
Let me know if you feel generous. A ol' prof. and too darn dumb to make a lanyard!
Thanks.
Best,
Prof. Ed

I suppose anything that is easy. The Chris Reeve is neat.

The Chris Reeve is pretty neat. What are you having trouble with? Looseness? Getting the paracord even?

I'm ashamed to say that i just visually don't see how the knots are constructed. I keep getting granny knots or they are too far away from the knife. I'm just not(no pun intended) good with schematics or even the animations that someone posted.

The coil knot looks great tied in leather or rawhide also. It is a bit easier to tie since the leather laces are square.

Thank you for the idea about leather. But, I'm afraid that my problem stems from being a "klutz!"

My tying day ended with me putting a piece of cord through my KIWI and tying the end. Then I burned it. It won't work for my BOA, SCALLION, or CHIVE. Not to mention a SOG OUTLINE and a forthcoming LE GRIFFE. I've made the beautiful, quite ugly! LOL

Is there a way to purchase a lanyard and still attach it to your knife or must you "build" the lanyard on the knife?

thanks for the compliments guys , just learned these about a month ago. Now I have my 10 year old son tying them like mad as well.

Been going thru paracord like mad around here...
this one is the standard square only I used 4 strands of cord VS 2 .

(( they are all tied and not glued :D ))

depending on how you are attaching it to the knife....if you want I can send you a Lanyard in differing stages...one just started...one about a 1/3 done and one finished then you can use them as a working model.....having someone show you in person makes a huge difference.....

Which knife are you wanting to attach it too ?? I have been makin a bunch for Keychains as has my son , he made one for all the kids in his class on a keyring.....

I had a heck of a time trying to learn this online , needed to have a freind show me in person.

Nice work! But those are really "fobs", not lanyards. Fobs are short tethers used to tug an object out of a pocket; they used to be popular when men carried pocket watches. You can see old-timey photos of men in suits and vests and the fob hanging out of a vest pocket. Lanyards IMHO are longer cords used to tie a knife, fid or similar object to a belt or button to prevent them from being lost. Sailors who had to go aloft in the days of sail tied lanyards to their knives so they wouldn't lose them. Often they hung them around their necks. The Ashley Book of Knots has many excellent examples. You can probably find it at your local library.:)

I guess it all depends on how you look at it , whatever it is , it is a great way to relieve stress which I why I started doing it in the 1st place . There is also a book called : The Encylopedia of Knots , ordered it off Barnes N Noble for like $12 and should be here any day now ( ordered it over 2 weeks ago  ).

Anyone found any sites for Lanyards ? I find me and my son getting more into this each day . He already asked for a Strider knife so he can learn the Strider Wrap .

Too far away you say? Well the hangman's noose can be adjusted by pulling a string, making the "noose" smaller. Then you just cut the string and burn it. The CR Coil Knot(same as hangman's noose) is rather easy. It just takes a little practice and slightly more time(for me anyway). Just follow the directions here . This image may be confusing so imagine your knife on the left side of the image(make sense?). Remember to wrap tight. If you find the "noose" to be too large, just pull one of the strings and it will become smaller. Too small, just pull the wrapped portion of the lanyard. Hope these directions are easy to understand. Good luck!

There are quite a few places on the web to fnd the instructions for these. You can also go to Amazon.com and buy a couple of books on knot tying and macrome'.

I'm currently waiting on some blood red para-cord to be delivered so that I can add one on to my red LUDT :D

It should be here in a few days along with some other cool and unusual colors. Thanks though!

Have you bought from Barre Army Navy before?

Never bought thru them , ordered mine thru Ubraidit.com as I could not find anyone in town who had it. Dropped by the Army/Navy Surplus store here in town the day after I called this same place and they told me they don't carry para cord , walking thru the store...what do I see on the back wall...spools of paracord...and in almost all the colors as well @ $.06 / foot

Even though I have a order enroute I bought some to hold me over from the Surplus store in town . If you ever can not find a color , let me know and I can prob get it and send it off to you .

Gonna need some more for my Ebay Rinaldi :D
