As I posted in another thread... Got a large Regular today and I'm in knife heaven. I'm unfamiliar with the lanyard though and wanted to ask if it has any practical function or if it's just decorative? If it does have a function I'd love to hear what yall use it for.

BTW, This forum is incredible! I've been a member for a few days and I've gotten a ton out of it. Thank you guys!

i use it for pulling the knife out of the pocket quickly. I really like it.. If you keep the knife in your front pocket with the clip out you can grab the lanyard instead of the knife.. I even put one on another knife after realizing how much i liked it.

Cerick---said it best. I took the lanyard off my first Seb. but I left it on my S30V Seb. It really helps to pull the knife form your pocket and it is not in the way. Your call though.

+1 more

I took the lanyard off at first but later put it back and realized how much easier things are with it in place.

For some jobs, it is necessary to use your knife, put it down, and then use it again. In these circumstances, especially when I'm outside or around water, I sometimes let the knife dangle from my wrist by the lanyard.

Depending on the knife and the lanyard, it sometimes gives you a little more "handle" to grab onto.

Very true for the smaller knives. I have a Crawford F4 and I tied a lanyard onto it and it does totally function as a handle extention.

I do this with my Sable also when around water. I gutted some trout fishing and I did that. I was a little nervous about dropping it (understandably) and it was also good to hand there while I needed both hands for cleaning instead of setting the knife down.
