Lanyard holes

I've asked this before, and I'm still curious... why doesn't Buck provide lanyard holes in the handles of its fixed-blade knives? (I'm looking at the Vanguards and skinners in particular.)

I could live without it, but I do like to wrap a lanyard around my wrist in some circumstances. It seems to be a common enough feature, and it presumably doesn't compromise the handle (?)

All,
Lanyard hole are usually an added operation. Most all of our butts are molded or Powdered metal. When you pull the part out of the mold, the lanyard hole would have a pin inserted across the mold parting line. In other words, you have to pull the mold in direction X while the hole is in Direction Y. IT can be done, but it has its own quality and production risks, and is more costly. That leaves you with drilling in the lanyard hole after molding. That also is an added cost to MFG. Typically it was left off for cost reasons.. If it is incorporated into the design right, there would be no functionality problems with the handle and blade. If enough consumers ask for it, I'm sure we would modify the style.

Thanks, Jeff.
Btw, are you implying that the hole can be added after-market?
Any particular reason Intrepids (for example) have the holes and Vanguards don't? I.e., just mfg. cost or are there some perceived/implied utility issues?

Frank,
A lot of the diff of Lanyard no Lanyard is in the way it is MFG. The holes on the Intrepid being on the blade are put in by the laser cut of the bklade blank. On a Vanguard, you have a molded (sintered) butt piece that would have to be post drilled. The laser holes are basically free (not much cost in laser time as opposed to a seperate operation to drill).
In my mind most of it is a cost issue.
