Hi all,

So I bought some 550 paracord the other day, with the 7 nylon strands inside. It frays quite a bit more than I expected it would, pretty significantly actually, using a PE BM 550 HG if it matters to anyone. Is there anything I can do to prevent fraying (superglue before/after cutting?) Or is there something better than paracord of which I can get a good length and cut down for lanyards?

Thanks for the tips

Well, have you tried burning the tips? That's what almost everybody does.

Burn the white stands till hits the outer cord part, then put the outer cord part and pinch and twist the out core around the stands. Shouldn't fray after that.

Now THAT is some useful information. Took all of 30 seconds to do, rather than my idea of sitting and waiting for superglue to dry!

Thanks!!!

I will even one up Masteroffajitas.

If you use matches or a lighter sometime's the ends become blackened.

I've found that an electric stove-top is a cleaner method. Just turn the stove up until the rings are red-hot and carefully melt the ends. I always put on gloves just to be safe.

Done properly the ends will be clean and not fray.

I did this on my fallkniven's lanyard below, you can see even with bright orange paracord, there is minimal discoloration.

I use a butane torch on all of mine. Totally unnecessary, but it's quick and you can control where the heat goes.

BUT, the ends do get black pretty quickly. For whatever reason, it never occurred to me to use the stove. Great tip, 5.56

Also good to know, thanks 5.56. It's a good thing when I tried it with the lighter I was using black paracord!!

As a side note, are there instructions somewhere on how to tie that lanyard like you did 5.56? Mine looks somewhat more primitive. Thanks!

Look up a noose, that is basically what 5.56 has on his. I also have the same type on my para, but I am on a mobile device so I won't be able to post pics.

That is your typical hangman's knot, or you can just google it, there are video's showing detailed instructions.

I also like to use a snake knot for when you want to use two different colors, like this:

Ok I'm back on my pc, here is my para with a simple noose knot, I also found one of my shorter folders that I had put a noose lanyard on it for added grip length wise.

Great looking lanyards Absintheur

I use a normal lanyard braid (the kind you see kids do with that plastic string). Never thought about using a stove before. Good tip there.
