Hello group,

What material are you suggesting 'should' be used as a lanyard ?

Something of professional quality, no junk.

thank you,

BB

Do you know any Marines?

If not you can go onlice and find Brigade Quartermasters or Ranger Joes. The both sell it in various lenghts and even spools. Cheap.

Good Luck
Jason

I generally prefer to find a local source for it, rather than ordering it. Any surplus store, and many gun shops will have it. The Adventure Store in Waukegan is where I used to always buy it, but have moved out of that area now.

I prefer 550 OD paracord. IMO, the OD looks great with dark anodized aluminum, tufram, and G10.

What is OD ?

I went to Brigade Quartermaster and they only have 550 Survival cord.

Is that the same as 550 paracord ?

If not, where are you buying the stuff. I did a search and nothing is coming up.

Regards,

BB

I use the folks below when it comes to my paracord needs ! They sell the 7-strand 450 lb test - 550 paracord cord.

They "always" have it and in the colors than you need !

And if not. . .I guess that you can buy some white and dye it. :P

Colors available: White, Black, Olive Drab, Red, Yellow, Purple, Turquoise, Silver Grey, Charcoal Grey, Tan, Chocolate Brown, Royal Blue, Kelly Green, Gold, Neon Pink, Neon Turquoise, Neon Yellow, Dark Green, Colonial Blue, Navy Blue, Burgundy, Orange, and Neon Orange.

Depends on what effects you want.
Silk cord or the insides of 550 for a fancy knot on a dress knife
550 for a tactical knife
Leather for a short knife that you need to add length to, ie Spyderco Mouse

Hope this helps.

Boner,550 or paracord,is the stuff that connects the parachute to the risers on military parachutes and is rated to hold 550 pounds, thus the name 550 cord.In the Army we used it for everything from bootlaces and dummy cording equipment,to prusik knot handcuffs and hanging contraband outside the barracks windows during suprise health and welfare inspections. Some soldiers even resorted to cutting it off the T-10's on the DZ,it was that valuable of a commodity.Beware of the junk some companies sell as genuine 550,it is worthless.Along with the old style canteen cup,100 MPH tape, poncho liners, and old style jungle boots, and OG-107's,it's one of the few things military surplus that is actually worth a crap.I'd say use it for your lanyards.
