What exactly is it, and where can I get more, or another?

I want to try something but don't want to cut the only one I have.

I'm not sure of the type of cord used for their standard black lanyard. But it is tied in a hangman's knot (aka: Reeve Coil Knot). Here is a link to instructions on how to tie one: http://www.chrisreeve.com/knotleft.htm

If I were you, I would not cut your lanyard, I'd just untie the one you have.

CRK also has more colorful lanyards available for purchase from many of their authorized dealers. There is a list of their dealers on the CRK website. These knots are made from paracord, I believe. Paracord is readily available online in a bunch of colors. (If you email me, I can send you a link to my favorite supplier.) The knot used for these lanyards is the snake knot. Instruction on how to tie it are easy to find with a Google search.

Thanks man. I'm not cutting the one I have. And already knew how to tie that particular one. I just want to try a different type, just a loop with a knot but want to use a different cord probably. Is there a paracord the same size as the lanyard that came with it? What size would that be to fit through the blue lanyard spacer peice?

I would like to know this myself!

The closest thing that I have found was at a craft store, it was called drawstring cord, which the lady said people use in sweatshirts for the hoods.

No paracord matches it, not even the smaller 3 strand stuff. Which I think it called microparacord.

Other than the sweatshirt cord, it reseambles shoelaces or bootlaces, but I have yet to find something exactly like the stuff CRK uses...maybe an email to Heather or Angela is in order. I will do that now and let you know as soon as I find out.

Here's something that might help.
Some years back I used to use a cord exactly the same size as what CRK uses for their lanyards. It was decoy cord, used by water fowl hunters for securing decoys and it was readily available from the stores that specialized in hunting supplies. I have no idea where it can be obtained these days but an internet search is bound to turn up something. The decoy cord I used was a nice flexible nylon cord that was easy to work with and the same diameter as the CRK lanyard cord.
Hoping this might be an option, if you can find it.

I just now did a quick search and found Decoy Cord at Bass Pro Shops, 1.5 mm diameter. Also several other internet sources. Some of the cord is braided, some is not. Seems like lots to choose from depending upon the source. Should find something just right if you choose carefully.

I would like to know as well. I upurchased cord from a company that supplies CRK, but I cannot figure out how to fit it in the spacer pin...any ideas? It is a nylon rope type of cord.

If you want to use Paracord, I suggest taking out the inner strands or buying 3 strand paracord which is finer.
You can always take just a few strands out of your 550 cord as well. When tying a lanyard I always take the inner strands out of the very tips of my length of cord that way I can fit it into any lanyard hole I may need to and am able to easily fit both pieces through the skull bead.

Here's a link to an in-depth discussion on paracord.

I suppose a call to CRK would reveal the actual size cord he uses. I purchased a 10' section on-line and it appears to be the same diameter as the one on my CRK, but the packaging doesn't specify what size it is; although my receipt shows Type III 550 Paracord. I did notice some tips to use a breadtie or small nail to push/pull the cord through tight openings, perhaps even dental floss. However, I've yet to try it myself on the CRK lanyard spacer.

If you want the same kind of cord they use from factory, take a look at a hobby/crafts store. They will have it and in many colors.

I don't know which cord is used by CRK for their lanyards but I always use 550 paracord. I do not need to remove any strands. It fits well. Just cut it at an angle, burn it, put it through the pin and pull. Maybe you need to use pliers to grab it.

Best

You can use a thin wire, you can scavange some by striping the paper covering off a twist tie from your box of garbage bags to pull it through the hole as well.

Thanks for the tips. I'll try a craft store and cabelas store when I pass for those.aybr just regular old nylon woven rope might work too. Have to see...

I got an email back for Angela today, she said that they get all of their stuff from paracord.com and it's just their 550 paracord, which is approx 3 mm or 1/8" in diameter. But I thought that the 550 was thicker than their standard cord, so

I will order some and see what I come up with.

I've been wanting to try out some gray stuff.

I did a little more digging earlier today, and I think that the standard black cord that CRK uses must be Paracord Type 1 or microparacord, which is 2mm in diameter.
Because the CRK beads have a hole that is .185" and 2mm=.078 and you can fit two standard lanyard strands through a crk bead, but you have to gut 550 cord to get it to go through it twice.
I will order some of that too, see what I come up with.

Another tip to get the cord through the hole is to wrap it tightly in teflon tape and then use that to pull it through. You can decrease the diameter by wrapping it tightly enough and then snake it through very nicely.

Retire my noose knot today. I used a lighter and warmed the end, and rolled it to a better point. Inserted te pin into knife, and, using a twisting and pushing, worked it through.

Now if I can just get the knot as tight and the ends even like from factory haha

Update on the Lanyard Materials:

I got the Paracord Type 1 in today, and it is quite a bit smaller than the standard CRK cord...but it is still kinda neat, mini lanyards, if you want some of that stuff, you can find it on the bay, search for "micro paracord" it's the 2mm stuff.

And I just realized that my order with paracord.com was never placed, I checked today to see if my order went through and they said I never placed an order, so I just ordered it again, probably be here next week sometime.

I wanted to class mine up a bit so I got some 3mm round leather cord from a craft store. I made it a little shorter. I think it looks good.
