Lanyard - What’s the separate white string for?

Blade gurus... Several lanyards I’ve bought recently from Emerson and ZT have come with a small white thread in its own separate mini ziplock bag. Does anyone know what this string is for? I’ve never seen nor used them before. Any feedback on what these are? Thanks

It might be a guide thread to help the lanyard get attached to your knife. That may help prevent you from damaging the lanyard on the initial install.
That's my guess.
