Lanyard?

Hey guys. I have a large cf 21. Wondering what you guys use to make lanyards and or keep the decorative pin in. My lanyard is slowly fraying. I keep touching it up with a lighter but I know
Eventually I'll have to make a new one. I don't want to lose the blue pin as I like the look, but I wouldn't be offended if it stayed in without a lanyard. Just don't want it to look ugly or hacked together.

I tried making a hang mans knot with 550 and it was to big. I wonder what type of cord is used for the original lanyards? Hope some one can answer this.

I just remove both lanyard and pin. I don't like the way the blade cuts into the lanyard and I don't appreciate the extra dangle-age.

I don't like or use lanyards. I know they have their uses, but for my casual EDC, I feel as though the lanyard will catch on something and I'll lose my knife.
I take out the pin also, but have read where one fellow goes to Lowe's and buys the proper size of O-ring (size 60?, not sure). He sticks this on the pin and so can keep the pin in the knife without losing it.
Pretty cool idea.
However, I see no need to carry the pin, either.

I like lanyards a lot. I find them very useful, especially when working with gloves, and also decorative.

I think CRK uses a 250 or 350lb spec. cord - NOT 550 paracord. I do not like their lanyards at all, and always remove them and immediately tie my own. I tried going without and it felt awkward. Here's what's in my pocket now (Large Insingo):

Onespdfrk, that is a great lanyard. How do you tie that style?

Thanks! Go to YouTube and search for "paracord ball knot". There's several good instructional videos there.

I made the bead out of an acrylic resin material. I like this because it doesn't scratch the titanium like metal beads.

Also, if you use 550 cord on a CRK, you need to remove 4 of the 7 inner strands to allow it to (rather snugly) pass through the lanyard pin hole.

Good info, thanks for that. Nice tying you're doing.

You just need to remove an inch or so of the core strands and melt the outer part into a point after you pull it back over, you can pull the rest of the cord through easily if you do that and it keeps the cord firm. It is too baggy and doesn't tie well if you remove any of the inner strands, IMO. It is worth making sure the lanyard pin has no burr or sharp edges too. :)

Very good information. Thanks for that also. I hate baggy lanyards almost as much as the smell of burning paracord. :D
