How many of you put lanyards on your multitools? i tried it for a while but i find they just get in the way, especially when they have tools that open different directions or when you are using a screw driver.

I on occasion need to while working at height, although since my SOG doesn't have a ring, it stays on the ground. the pulse was good for that. it is awkward to use, but a necessity all the same

The ones that I take with me on camping and hiking trips do have a lanyard, to prevent loss. The lanyard enables me to attach them to my belt or rucksack. The ones that have in my EDC often don't have a lanyard.

But since there is a difference between liking a lanyard and thinking a lanyard is necessary, I voted "no". They can get in the way.

Lanyards have their place . I sometimes work off scissor lifts and ladders , sometimes in areas where the general public has access , I have lanyards on all my work multi's .

For certain things a lanyard is indeed necessary (i.e up on ladders, scaffolding, etc) but for everyday carry I think they hinder more than they function. When your using a screwdriver they can twist around the tool handle etc.

The best option (IMO) is the removable lanyard ring on the Charge (can be used on SURGE and Wave also). You get to use the lanyard when you need it and just easily press the lock release and take it off.

You could also use a small carabiner or other small locking hook that you can attach at the end of your lanyard. I use such often for my SAK when in the outdoors. It is very easy then to take the SAK off from the lanyard.

Here's an example of a hook that I use.

That's what I do when carrying a Charge. For other models, I use a quick release clip on the "lanyard" (actually, a shoestring) to attach and detach from the multitool.

Mine are all detachable , eithe looping on , or with a McGizmo clip .

I have some bright orange paracord on my black OHT in case I drop it in the woods. Other than that I don't usually put one on a multi-tool. However if I am doing something that involves climbing or inversion I might attach it to myself with one.

Where can those hooks be found? Since I don't know what they are called, I haven't had any luck finding them on line, and all I get from craft shop clerks are blank looks when I try to describe them. The spring clips I have found in hardware stores work, but are clunky.

They are often referred to as 'lobster claw' clips or sometimes as 'snap hooks', might well go by other names as well. Victorinox do there own version (part number 4.1845) but I don't have one of theirs myself. In general I like this type of clip and use them on my keyring so as I can easily remove my torch or SAK for use, or simply so as I can swap around my EDC without any hassle.
