Lanyards?

Have a ZT0560 on the way.. Looking at pictures and like the look of a lanyard. I understand that they help pulling out the blade, but never really felt like I needed one before.

So, do you use lanyards? If so, what knot do you use and how long do you make them?

I like 'em on fixed blades that are deep in a pocket sheath. However, I don't use them for folders. It's all about opinions.

on small knives I like a "grab tag" lanyard... something that just helps you get ahold of it or get it out of your posket.. on larger blades you will be hacking with a wrist lanyard is useful to make sure you don't "throw it away" ...

for pistols I like a bungee lanyard, so you can't ever be separated from it.
... but for GP knives I don't generally use a lanyard.

I use them with clip less folders . Mine are just long enough to hang out of my front pocket.

If you run a search for "lanyards" in GKD you'll find plenty of previous threads on the topic. It seems like most folks like 'em for (1) aesthetics, and (2) aid in deployment.

I couldn't stand lanyards on knives until about a month ago. I put one on a folder I carry from time to time just for the heck of it, and now I love them. It is much easier to pull out of a pocket, and makes closing a little easier too. I still don't like how they look, but if it works, it works. I just run a length of paracord (usually only the outer "tube," with the inner strands removed) through the lanyard hole, tie an overhand knot and hit it with a lighter to sort of seal the knot in place, then tie an overhand knot about an inch out using the two ends from the first knot and fuse it too. The first knot keeps it from moving around too much, and the second holds the two strands together while allowing a loop to be formed if needed. This length makes it easy to grab sticking out of my pocket but isn't so long that it gets caught on things. If I were to put one on a non-clipped folder, I'd probably make it two to four inches long and put a weight or something like that on the end so that it wouldn't fall back in my pocket. Now that I'm thinking about this, I think I'll do this to my CS Kudu to see how it does for keeping the knife oriented in my pocket.

As someone who hated lanyards a month ago, I say go for it. They really do make it easier to grab a knife that you might otherwise lose grip of while drawing.

As others mentioned, it's all about what you like. I enjoying trying new weaves with 550 paracord, and like having a lanyard on most of my knives.

I bought some Paracord and tied a fob to my Scallion. I didn't find that it improved my grip at all, and it just wound up taking up more pocket room, so I removed it. I do plan to put on my SAK though, since I carry that in my pocket and not clipped to the top of it.

No lanyards here. They just get in my way and provide a great snagging point for losing a knife.

Maybe a bit of paracord is ok, but once you get into beads and multi color thread, you're just bedazzling your knife like an 8 year old bedazzles a horse t-shirt.

I've never understood them on EDC knives I've read they are good for pulling out your knife more easily like someone here mentioned but my pockets are usually pretty full. I've got them on some knives I keep in bags more of a woven tag of cord to go along with a Swiss army style knife but other than that I've never seen a purpose for them and they'd tend to get in the way more than anything. All of my carry knives are either sheath on belt or pocket clip both in and out of uniform. I guess it all boils down to preference and need.

Another member mentioned there are quite a few other threads on lanyards...Yes there are.

I've never understood why you need a fob or lanyard hanging out of the pocket to pull your knife out. Just a choice I guess.

I generally don't use them, but I figured I'd give it a shot again. I just put a short, simple one on the end of my 0450. It does make it noticeably easier to pull the knife from your pocket. It did make a bigger difference on my Dragonfly, as it provided a more "stuff" to grab onto on the otherwise much smaller knife.

I have a few lanyards to aid in deployment but also because I like the looks. I'd say 25% deployment and 75% cool factor for me personally. You wouldn't see all the expensive and elaborate beads if it were only for function.
