I couldn't stand lanyards on knives until about a month ago. I put one on a folder I carry from time to time just for the heck of it, and now I love them. It is much easier to pull out of a pocket, and makes closing a little easier too. I still don't like how they look, but if it works, it works. I just run a length of paracord (usually only the outer "tube," with the inner strands removed) through the lanyard hole, tie an overhand knot and hit it with a lighter to sort of seal the knot in place, then tie an overhand knot about an inch out using the two ends from the first knot and fuse it too. The first knot keeps it from moving around too much, and the second holds the two strands together while allowing a loop to be formed if needed. This length makes it easy to grab sticking out of my pocket but isn't so long that it gets caught on things. If I were to put one on a non-clipped folder, I'd probably make it two to four inches long and put a weight or something like that on the end so that it wouldn't fall back in my pocket. Now that I'm thinking about this, I think I'll do this to my CS Kudu to see how it does for keeping the knife oriented in my pocket.
As someone who hated lanyards a month ago, I say go for it. They really do make it easier to grab a knife that you might otherwise lose grip of while drawing.
