Looking to add a lanyard to one of my Kershaw Leeks what size cord would work with the hole on this knife?

Here's mine with a simple leather lanyard.

Thanks for the pic.
Looking to do something like this but in blue and gray.

Paracord would be my first choice because it's so easy to work with, and when you reef down on the knots they tend to stay put. If the kershaw's lanyard hole is as small as it looks you'll probably need to gut the cord.

edit: Just read the response above

Those are gutted. If you use a loop of dental floss (or the 550 innards) to pull the lanyard loop through the hole you'll have no problem. The gutted cord actually compresses quite well. The bead is a nice way of finishing of the ends.

Not relevant but why not.....
My quick lanyard on my EDC technora cord and wood beads. It's just 2 lengths of cord tied together with crown knots between the beads (had to double up because it's so thin (about 2mm thick). I've got paracord for the next lanyard to match the scales that are going on.

. I have a "survival" bracelet that has 30 feet of >400lb test crammed into a bracelet only 0.10" thick and 3/4' wide. Even though it's on par with kevlar, it feels like nylon when new, cotton when warn.

That is 4mm 550 paracord in that pic by the looks of it. Pretty simple design with a simple cobra braid. 4mm 7 strand 550 pound is the most common cordage for lanyards but, if it doesn't fit, you can get a bunch of other smaller sizes like 3mm 3 strand 425 pound exc.

I find large lanyards like that to be uncomfortable myself. Their too heavy and swing around too much. I make mine with a standard noose knot and a bead. That way it can tuck through two fingers if needed too for retention.

Here is one of mine.

And, in retention mode.

^Yeah that's what I'm asking. If 550 will fit. I want to know the correct size before I buy.

can you measure the hole in the knife? I have a Leek, but it is at home. I've a ton of 550 cord and if I remember correctly, a single strand MAY fit through the hole, but doubled up, no way. If I remember, I'll see if I am correct tonight. Someone may beat me to it though. I have back to school night for the eldest so I may not be home until 8 Pacific.

If only a single cord will fit, you'll need to make the lanyard after passing through the knife's hole vs making it first, then pushing the doubled up cord through the hole.

4mm is the standard. It's just a matter of whether one or two strands will fit through the hole. You can also always remove the inner strands, or even some of them, to make it fit a smaller hole too. I have never had a knife that wouldn't except at least a single strand of 4mm.

I like paracord with the inner strands removed for knife lanyards. I go for functional not aesthetic. If going for aesthetic having the inner strands in will give it more support and make the knots more attractive.

But if you buy one pre-tied, then you have to fit TWO thicknesses of cord (at the loop end) through that hole to attach the lanyard. If the cord on the lanyard is already gutted (inside strands removed), then it would likely fit. If not, then probably no way.

I did check my Leek, and there is no way a pre-tied lanyard would critic are pitot un-gutted 550 cord. Gutted cord would still be tight.

I recently saw some "95 paracord" next to the regular cord at Hobby Lobby. It appears to be about 1/2 the size of regular 550....
