HI again. I was wondering what the point of lanyards are, besides looking good. I have seen them on lots of knives and just cant seem to figure out what it is that they do. Thats all for now, expect more later.

Welcome to the forums hummer. :)

I use the lanyard on my small Sebenza to remove it from my pocket. This knife is also small enough (and my hands are large enough) that is really a 'three finger' knife, at least for me. The lanyard in effect extends the handle, my little finger is curled around it, not the handle.

Makes sense?

Steve-O is right, the lanyard can work like the old watch fobs, to pull it up out of a pocket.

Most lanyards are also knotted in a way that they can be easily unwound, to wrap around the wrist for security, for example, when working in a boat.

As people have said before a lanyard really helps retrieving a folder from the pockets. The loop of cordage on my SAK's are long enough to wrap around the thumb and across the back of the hand to help give me a good grip when i'm working. When the knife is in my front jeans pocket the last inch of the lanyard is tucked between my belt and jeans to keep the large SAK upright and to the side. The knot at the top keeps the whole package from slipping back down into the pocket.

Thanks alot for the info, it cleared up all of my confusion. Now I need to get better at trying them. Atleast I will be kept busy. As always, thanks for the info and keep up the awesome work.

Also quite handy if one is using a nylon sheath. That's how I carry my Sebenza. I just grab the lanyard, and give it a yank. Much easier than trying to get my thumb down inside and pulling like it was in a pocket.
