Does anyone us the lanyard rings on their, lets say Wave or whatever MT? Or is it just one of those useless emplements? Does it get in your way when working with the tool? Thanks, Dylan.

i've used it on occasion when working on a rooftop or high ladder. if getting back down to retrieve it would be a pain in the ass i just open the lanyard ring and run a bit of 550 cord through it for a wrist-loop.

actually, i just wish it were easier to get out. as it is, it's hard to deploy without using another knife to get at it.

yeah. mine is hard to get out too. I often wonder too why they put a lanyard ring in witht the pocket clip when you buy it? Than you may have 2 strings you may never use. I use mine only if I am gonna need it about every 5 seconds. I have read where guys use them hunting and put a florescent orange or green color string on and wear it around their necks. They do this for if they are field dressing and sit it down, hopefully the bright colors will remind them to pick it up. to me though I am not sure. Florescent string cant do much good if its covered in blood. If I use it, I always wear around the neck and not the wrist. Too me, when using wearing on the wrist, it will get in the way and the lanyard itself will get snagged alot. Never experienced the problem on the neck.

I place split rings through the lanyard attachment of most of my multitools. The split rings are easy to grab and help me pull the multitool out of a belt case, especially useful when my hands are cold or wet.

A few are shown below.

I use a CRK-style fob(hangman's noose) on a ST200. Makes it a lot easier to get out of the pouch.
One of my biggest gripes about the newer LM tools like the Blast is that they have a dedicated lanyard attachment point that is unusable with a pouch sheath.

AFAIR, a lanyard has never got in the way of my work, and the presence of an attachment for one is an important consideration for me when considering a tool or knife purchase.

On those multitools that can fit in my pocket, I use the lanyard ring attached by quick release clip to a shoestring looped to my belt. This suspends the multitool, keeping it in place, greatly reducing the felt weight and saving wear on the pocket. With a Charge or Surge, however, I prefer to use the pocket clip. When working on a ladder or over water, I will use a lanyard, if I think of it or am not too lazy to attach one :o .

Actually, doing so did once save me from having to go reaching into a floodwater pool, reeking of sewage and dead animals, for a fumbled Leatherman. It did hit the water, but still attached to my wrist, so a rinse was all that it needed. Believe me, there are few things more toxic in nature than floodwater.

After a week of using a lanyard on my Wave, which I really have no use for, decided that it just gets in my way. I can see the uses that others may have for it.

If I'd had a lanyard on my first Powerlock, it wouldn't be swimming with the fishes in the Farmington River right now.

I go wade fishing quite a bit and run about 18 inches of 550 looped to my belt to keep my wave from becoming a statistic.

i too put a split ring on my wave today on the lanyard ring. It makes for great use to help retrieve the wave from the pocket with the clip since it rides low in your pocket. just becomes a pain when you wanna use the scissors.

This is what I do, nothing fancy but work's great, and you still can open the scissors easily. If needed than I put the lanyard on that zip tie.
