The side profile is where you can see the resemblance.

Lets see some lanyards.

nice knot, and this question is not about your work but.. why do you all need Lanyards exactly.. removing the visual aspect in the question, give me a few good reason why should i have something hanging on my RC5, RC6, RC3, Izula.. i can't beleve its to add extra grip to knives. I got big hands but i'll never use a lanyards on my izula.. gets in my way when i need it quickly. Some might say to put your thumb in it so if you drop the knife, it will hang and not fell on the floor.. my trick for that is "dont drop it" .. use your kungfu grip on those handle.

I kinda hijack your thread and im sorry about it but i have always wonder why should i care about lanyards. I have seen some long lanyards that could easily interfer with the knife while cutting

Please enlighten me.. show me i am wrong.. show me that lanyards arn't just something pretty to show your knotting skills ?

I also have a question.

Is there a good resource for this kind of knot tying, handle wrapping, etc? I am an old boater so I can tie bowlines and half hitches and clove hitches and sheet bends and truckers hitches and all that. But when it comes to decorative or functional knotting and wrapping like this I am not skilled.

Is there a resource? Thanks.

QB

This is a great resource for knots, lanyards and general projects. Stormdrane is also a member here.

I had a lanyard on my Rc-3, but found myself taking it off whenever I used it for food prep or cutting meat. Now I just leave it off. Here is what it looked like before:

Holly crap that stormdrane blog has some amazing stuff, I know what I'll be doing later(beer koozie!!).

For me a lanyard on a knife like the ESEE 6 is a must. If I'm going to be doing any chopping I've go to have something to put my hand through so knife does not fly away, or into me, or a loved one, or pop a hole in the hot air balloon, that kind of thing.

For me,I just do it for S***'s and jiggles. It makes a fun hobby kicking back at a camp fire and it always ensures you have at least some para cord with you.
I used to have a heavy pewter skull on my hell razor until I almost broke my knuckle chopping one day.

I like them on my folders because it make them quicker/easier to grab. Sometimes they do seem to get in the way though. I've got one on my RD7 just because it's a big chopper and I don't want it getting loose and poking a hole in my foot. Stuff happens.

I've not tied anything to my other fixed blades yet though not sure I need to. Just my $.02

my RC-3 isnt really big enough to warrant a lanyard for chopping purposes...i've got one on there right now for the sake of looks...i can foresee my removing it after my next outing, for now its fine, but i imagine it'll get in the way around camp.

A simple coil knot on my 3.

And a cross-weave knot with skull on my 4.

Really no other reason then I like the look, and extra paracord :D

I have one on my RC-5, Sar 5, and my ESEE-4.. i did have one on my ESEE-3 but it just got in the way and was just plain annoying.. On the bigger knives I loop it on my wrists as just for that extra measure when im chopping with it or cutting with force..

Cool lanyards! I enjoy tying these things but don't enjoy them on my knives. I normally end up using them for zipper pools or just giving them away.

I put a simple loop lanyard on my RC4 so that i can just fit my two smaller fingers in it having my index and middle fingers on the end of the handle thereby giving me a little swinging/chopping ability while still having control of the knife.

Thats the ones I order to make the lanyards I sell in the exchange. It is side drilled.

Well in my opinion it's mostly for looks but if you want to know how to make a simple one
go to youtube and search "how to make knife lanyards and click on cutlery lover's vid.
