I would be interested in seeing pictures of some creative lanyard that you guys use. I use a simple paracord lanyard braided with a cobra stitch joined at the end by heating and squishing. I'll post pics soon. It's nutnfancy (sorry) but it does the job.

Lets see how you guys/gals do it!

Related question from a "Newbie". Does a lanyard have (or can it have) a function? Or is it just decoration? I love ones brets-ftw showed us.

Lanyards can be used to get extra grip on a knife, like using a sling to stabilize a rifle. They can be used to choke up on a knife to get better control for fine tasks. They help with retention for things like chopping. Im sure some folks will chime in with better answers.

I use mine to help locate and retrieve a folder (only tip up carry) in my pocket. I put my thumb in my pocket side it back until I hit the back of the handle the close my ring and pinky fingers around the lanyard and pull the knife out the grip the knife with my remaining fingers (with a very slight shift in position) and my hands in the perfect position to open it.

On small fixed blades (mostly neck knives) and a few small folders I also use the lanyard to get extra grip ( as stated above)

And lastly I like they way they look as well

Youtube vids are great for learning how, I use TyingItAllTogether and kevingg2000 a lot.

Wow! Very cool lanyards. I LOVE the dream catcher one, that is very original! I'm surprised it doesn't get all buggered up in the pocket. Also really like the one with the nut on it, thats a great idea.

Thanks for the youtube idea.

I'd like to see moar :D

lately, I've been using a combination of 110 paracord with gutted 550, and also using the inner strands. Some of my knives have lanyard holes that are too small, and the 110 fits perfectly.

A little tip that I had heard about, and only recently tried: How to cut and singe at the same time. Heat a razor with a torch until it is glowing, and it goes the cord like a hot knife through butter, literally. Also a way to make nice angled cut.

Yes, that makes a neater end than melting with a lighter. I use an old table knife and heat it on the stove. The knife gets melted plastic stuck to it but if you dedicate one old table knife for that purpose it isn't such a problem.

I'm intrigued. Is this a stock lanyard, or have you used 550 kernmantel and slid it onto something else. Either way, I like it.

I'm not for sure, but I think it's just 550 shell slid over a lanyard, but I bought one from Flexxx and it's awesome. They work great and they're actually pretty strong. I use mine to attach my flashlight to my EDC bag, but I'm sure it could be used for countless other things.

Its 550 sheath over something else.
I dont know what Flexxx is using, but i did have a tutorial on how to make them over on EDCF
Basically i use weedeater line and slip the paracord over the top, sear the ends
Wrap it around a dowel or other round rod and drop it in boiling water for 10 mins
Then cool it quickly, reverse the coil and finish the ends
I can probably make 4 an hour including the boiling time.
Very easy to do, and functional

EDIT - here's the links to the tutorial
