Any recomendations on sanding/polishing semi-precious stones? I was thinking of polishind raw jade. Tried sanding it with my regular sander with a wood sanding belt. Guess what, ruined the belt. Thought that would happen, but didn't have anything else at the time. Anyways, what do you folks recommend?

Thanks

Ken M,

I remembered seeing something about gem cutting belts in my Tru-Grit catalog. I checked and they recommend the Klingspor CS-321. It is a silicon carbide belt and it appears to be available in several different sizes. I have never personally used them. However, it should give you somewhere to look. They can be found on the web at www.trugrit.com.

i use a "turbine" diamond wheel for roughing the jade down then silicon carbide belts on an expandable drum to 600 grit flooded with water.
finish polish wit 8000 diamond compound on a plain canvas belt.

Whew Thanks guys, I called Tru-Grit and they are sending me a catalog. They too mentioned about using Sillicone Carbide Belts or stones. We'll see when I get the catalog in. I think this will be more work than I thought. Gives me something constructive to work on now though. I think I may have to get more equipment also. Whew!

Once again, thanks! I got more direction now.

Ken
