It means flatting a stone by rubbing another stone against it or by rubbing the stone against a large surface . ie. steel, concrete, ect.. Inorder to bring it back to a flat, level surface so it can be used for sharpening . DM
As david said. I have some picyures of the lapping process where I'm lapping my waterstones with my dmt benchstones. I'Ll post tHem when I'm at my normal computer
lapping a naniwa combonstone on a XC dmt stone.
add some pencil marks diagonally at 90 degs angle all over the stone, so you can see where the stone needs work. All marks will be gone when the stone is totally flat.
Use light pressure with the dmt because of the diamond surfaces. keep the stones wet and all will be fine. This was a way quicker job than using sandpaper (for me at least) on a glass/flat surface as a lapping medium
