Hey peeps

Yesterday i tried to lap and flatten an old worn out 204 medium rod using a DMT coarse with utmost caution and low pressure, this turned out well its glassy smooth yet still remove material quite good for the level of polish it yields however it took approx 2 hours.
No more valleys that never blackens and no more high points that get clogged fast and burnish, the loading is consistent which is awesome
I was like cool, lets do that on a fine one, however when i checked it on a granite tile, the thing was like warped and wobbly, i tried the 3 other white rods and they are all in the same condition, no way i could level it by hand especially considering the closed cell nature of the whites one, i tried a bit on my DMT and it was so freaking slow and i swear i could hear it asking for mercy so i stopped and went on my granite tile with a sheet of wet or dry sic and a crappy sic stone to pick up slurry from.
After 2 hours of elliptical frenzy patterns the thing is flat in portion but still pretty crappy overall so i called it a day, then i tried the rod scratch pattern on 3cr13mov cheapo Spydie, it couldnt cut at all, no blackening, crappy scratch pattern and skid feeling.
Looks like the sic i used dulled the abrasive rather than cut through it cleanly. Well a nice exercise in futility...
However this morning i just rubbed lightly the grooved face of my diamonds rod and i was able to restore the cutting ability, i didnt check the scratch pattern yet but the surface now blackens evenly and the skid feel is gone too.
I'm glad i tested it on rods because i plan to get a med benchstone and lap one side the same way with sic on granite tile then restore the abrasive with a coarse DMT.
