lapping/flattening shapton Glass stones

What are the alternatives to using shaptons glass diamond lapping plate? for lapping shapton glass stones
Could I use a regular stone lapping block or DMT XXC, wet grit sand paper?

I use a DMT XX Coarse Diasharp on my 1000 grit Glasstone, and the Diasharp Coarse on 2000, 8000, & 16000 grit Glasstones. I usually follow with the Diasharp Fine on the 8000 and 16000 grit stones to get those super smooth stones a little finer scratch pattern from the flattening.

GunMike,Yes I agree! I like the results I get w/ a well worn fine diamond for lapping. DM
