Hello done a lot of seaching did not find much on this topic. Just received my Laredo Bowie and there are scratches on the blade does anyone else have this problem ? Looks like the scratches are from the sheath it's a San Mai 3 steel in advance thanks for you responses

What kind of sheath is it? Leather or Secure-Ex?
My Black Bear Classic with secure-ex sheath came with scratches but a quick wipe down
with flitz/simichrome got rid of them. Or do you have deeper scratches?

If it is enough to bother you I think you should return it.
A few years ago this was a known problem with the leather sheaths that came with the SK5 Laredo Bowies.
But I do not know if the Sanmai version has the same problem.

The leather sheaths on both the San Mai III and the SK5 versions all scratch up the sides of the blade. My SMIII is all scratched up on both sides of the blade from the sheath. If you got it to collect, then maybe you want to return it (but then you should not ever use the sheath when you get a new one). If you're going to use it, then it's not a big deal. The 420J stainless on the outside of the blade is very soft and gets scratched up like crazy from almost anything. My advice is to use it. It's just a knife, and you only live once. Use and enjoy!

It's the belt stop rivet on the inside of the sheath, isn't it? My Carbon V version has those scratches, too.

The belt stud might be part of the problem but it's not the only thing scratching it, as both sides of my laredo bowies get scratched by their leather sheaths. If you hate the scratches, might try to get the secure ex sheath for the laredo. That won't scratch, although it will dull the edge. The only other solution would be to make your own leather sheath.

Had this problem with my SM3 Laredo and Natchez bowies. Had Kydex sheaths made for those (and my sm3 trailmaster) and then sent them out for polishing. Should have them back soon.
