The box contains just the knife and a leather sheath that has a large brass pin.
I see nothing to connect this sheath to a belt. Is this correct? Or am I missing a part?
Thank you

Dont worry, you are not missing any parts ;-)

Your sheath is for sash carry or IWB carry as we might say today.

You simply stick the sheath inside your belt - the large pin (or rifle sling button or what ever) will prevent the sheath from slipping/dropping.

Sash carry is a traditional and an EXCELLENT way of carrying ones knife. I heartedly recommend it.

Hope this helps.

I've been carrying large knives that way for over 20 years. It is the traditional, and excellent, easy way to carry the big boys. Just slip the knife and sheath behind your belt, or IWB if you want to carry concealed. I first learned that carry method from Bill Bagwell when I got my first Bowie from him, and make my own modern versions in Concealex, called the Southern Comfort. I now carry all my knives with blades 7" or more that way. Easy on and off, and very comfortable way to carry.

I dont like those pins on the natchez/laredo sheaths. The scratch the hell outta the blades. Both my Natchez and Laredos are in cali getting polished by Ken.

It is not the pins .. it is either the plastic liner or dirt in the sheath as well.

I agree with Mike. Knives over 7" are way easier to carry, slipped in the belt. There are many ways, angles, positions of this e.g. front, side, back of the body, relative to personal preference, task utility, appropriate to whatever clothing you are wearing. Check out Lynn Thompson of Cold Steel, in
re. what I think is one of the best positions, sort of an angled side-sword carry. This way the knife does not hang too low, and the handle is pointed forward for quick draw. The belt stud sheath carry method is really handy too too, re. easily emoving the knife sheath from your belt, when you don't need it. You don't have to undo or partially remove your belt. Great for going in and out of the cabin for a hunt/hike, or in and out of truck etc.... just grab the knife and slip it in or out of your belt. Super comfortable too. Easily adjustable to angle and height. Looks Cool!!! The Samurai carry a sheathed blade, with the handle well up from the belt level, e,g,google youtubes re. say ' how to carry Samurai katana in belt'" or similar. Daniel Boon, Davie Crocket, Jim Bowie etc. looked cool and were practical re this. The better ways to carry seem to be: angled at the side, as above; or, angled at the back.

Carrying it angled in front of the stomach seems a bit awkward, and overly ostentatious. Lots of cool pictures Google Images. Very masculine, athletic, ready for anything in the bush, look. Too bad we can't wear around town.... All good. God's Love, Blades of the Outdoors!
