I just got this in a trade, and I notice the lockup is really late.. What do you think?

I have heard the CRK can fix it if you send it in and i have also hear that it is okay as long as it isnt touching the other side. Mine is a little less than 50%. While people always talk about a super early lock-up as a good thing, it seems that it would make slippage a bit easier so idk.

I just checked, I feel the absolute slightest side to side play, and no vertical play.

I don't know how the maintenance of this one was kept by the prior owner, bit I may send it in to get this lovely blade some well needed TLC.

This is my first CRK so forgive all the future stupid questions that may come. And I will do my research on here instead of asking duplicate questions as best as I can.

I'm glad to be a part of the family.

I dont think any blade play is at all normal, mine is rock solid. Try taking it apart and seeing if there is anything up or tightening some screws.

Okay. I'll make sure to check it when I get home. Well, I'll check the screws first..

Here is the official word from Chris Reeve...

Question...My problem is that the lock travels and hits the opposing liner when a firm grip is applied. I disassembled it and cleaned it thoroughly but the problem persists.

Answer...There is nothing to fix!! The lock will move over toward the back of the front handle slab if you press hard on it. After all, it is a spring that has a natural position and can move further if pushed. The spec position for the lock is to cover 75% of the blade. If it falls naturally further than that, we will adjust it.

Everything is working great. Pivot screw was really loose, tightened it down and she is great now. I need to get the CRK grease now. :)

Yeah. I'd recommend getting a bowl of hot hot water and some fish detergent in it. Soak all the parts for a while, then scrub with a Dab of soap on a tooth brush. Rinse and dry. Then grease or oil and reassemble. I hold the Allen wrench lengthwise and tighten as hard as I can. That's plenty tight. I also put a bit of grease on the lock face.

Would that cause a loss of friction on the lock face?

Yes, it eventually wears off, i basically open it a few times, then clean excess off with a qtip. It stops sticking and make sit smoother. Also, cranking down on the pivot and frame screws also effects the knife. But cleaning it MAY help lockup.
