Large alice pack?????

I have a large alice pack with the frame, I took the frame off of the pack and was wanting to use the pack without the frame, is there any way that I can do this??? Am I missing something????? Need help???? it's one of the older packs, thought this might help!!!!

you just have to take the straps from the frame. but the frame distributes the load more evenly.

Large alice is is made to be used with frame only. Only medium alice has capability to be used without frame.

I have used a large alice WITHOUT the frame for years. the top portion that the frame fits between is strong enough to be slit and straps fed through. the portion i speak of is the thick shoulder padding at the top. I slit mine at the top seam and then resewed the slits to reinforce and keep them from fraying

I know that is as clear as mud but hopefully you can figure it out.

I am sure there is a manual for it some where , perhaps if you did a search you might find the proper method.

Exactly. You'd have to mod it like Langston said to get it to work.

Some others have modified a wooden dowel to run the straps through, and just put that in the pocket where the frame usually goes. That's probably the easiest way to do it.

That frame does spread the weight more evenly, right along with the misery of it. I would rather have a medium ALICE without a frame than a large with one. Of course, modding a large to med. config. would be great I reckon! They really are a dumpster, you can carry so much in them.

I bought a medium one on the bay for about $11....that seems like the easiest route, no??

I bought mine from a dealer out in Colorado. I ordered new Fastex buckles from The Supply Captain and modded some of the straps, good stuff!

that's clear enough for me that's what I'm gonna go, I'm gonna try and sew it back with dental floss, just to see what it does!!!!
