Large bold text on home computer

I am not computer savy at all and I have the following annoying problem:

All the text displayed on the forums are large and bold requiring alot of mouse activity to read. Any help would be appreciated. My Dell computer is 2 months old and maybe the factory settings are causing this. My office computer is OK.

Thanks!

Dave

What is your resolution set at?

If it's still at the "Factory" settings, chances are that it's 640x480. You may want to up the resolution to 800x600 or higher...

You may want to print this before you begin...
You can increase your resolution by minimizing all windows until you see the desktop. On Win98, you should be able to hit the little "Show Desktop" button next to the Start Key at the bottom left of your screen.

When you can see the desktop, right click in an open area of the screen. Select Properties.

A Screen will pop up with several tabs at the top. Select the "Settings" tab.

At the bottom left of the Settings screen, you will see a slide bar that says "Screen Area". Slide it to the right until it says 800x600 or 1024x768 (your choice).

Click on the "Apply" button and Windows will test to see if you like the screen size at that setting. Click yes if you like that screen size or cancel if you don't, on the window asking if you want to keep that setting.

Click Ok, and you are done.

Viola! Everything should be smaller!

Thank you. I checked my resoloution and it was already at 800x600. I changed it to 1024x768 and now I can see more on one page.

It appears to me though that the icons and task bar are smaller now on my home computer vs my office with the same size text?? Is this possible? For instance, the window and text size I am typing in now seems smaller than at my office.(at 1024x768). I guess I will wait until Monday and check the settings at my office and compare.

Also, my color is set at high color 16 bit; should this be set at true color 32 bit? I have a Pent II 450, 128Mb, 17" Trinitron.

Thanks for your help.

Why do we press harder on the remote, when we know the batteries are dead?

Underneath the slide bar there is a button that says "Advanced". Click on it, and go to the drop down box.

It should say either Small Fonts or Large fonts, and I'm betting on Small Fonts. Select Large Fonts and hit Apply, and follow the instructions. You may need to reboot afterwards, but it should straighten you out.

Monitor size and quality could also be the problem...

there's also a general preference on the font used and the size of that font in the display.cpl thingee (rightclickin' on the desktop and properties).

netscape and internet explorer do fonts differently...

and mac's fonts are always smaller than PC.

if any of this helps, i'm happy.

That helped! It was small fonts and I changed to large. I will compare exact settings to office computer Monday.

Thanks for input. Both monitors are 17" Trintron and Dell computers, PentII only speed is different.

Thanks for the help.

I checked my settings at the office and they were 800X600 with small font selected. When my new home computer is set to those same parameters the font size is VERY large in the forum allowing me to see only one post on a screen at a time. If I set the resolution higher the font size is good(same as office at 800X600) but the icons become too small!? Both monitors are the same. Could there be any other settings that I could try? Thanks! Dave
