My friend Roger P stopped by a couple days ago with another tempting goodie and so we have this fine Bowie by Craig Camerer to show.

standard

This is a very large Bowie being 16 1/2" OAL with an 11 1/2" W2 blade.

The guard is nicely fileworked Damascus 1084/15N20 with fluting on the guard and ferrule. Craig gave me the Damscus structure when I phoned him via Skype which folks may with to know is offering free Computer to Phone service in Canada/US till the end of 2006. Skype is a freeware download.

A large piece of beautifully Carmel colored Mammoth Ivory is housing the stick tang. The handle has 4 S/S pins as well as two Mosaic pins.

This is an other great example of the work of Craig Camerer JS. Below are two other knives I also own by Craig, one of which--the Searles --I was able to obtain from Roger P also.

Murray,
Congrats on all three. They are incredible. I'd run out of adjectives describing what I think of them.:foot: :D
Couldn't begin to pick a favorite. The hamon on the mammoth is beautiful,as is everything else on it.The last one,the Stag is equally stunning.
The Searles',I can't stop looking at it.
Did Roger have input with it's design?
Had to ask!

Doug:)

I know Roger has looked at this page but says the photos are not showing up. They seem to be to others but he can give more info on any input he had toward the knives. I just did a count and find that I have 16 pieces from Roger over the past few years. For all of them I thank him. He also gets to enjoy them whenever he comes over and that is a bonus for both of us as we can talk about them and other knives.

Once in a while, not often,I too have trouble seeing the pics in a thread.
Don't know what causes this.
Sixteen!
What a good friend you have in Roger.
And he in you.
Murray. You are a lucky man indeed.
What is the handle material on the Searles'?If you would be so kind.

Doug:)

I still can't see the pics, but Murray e-mailed me one of the Camerer and of course, I'm familiar with all of the knives. Murray's place is a true "house of knives" and it is always a lot of fun to visit with him and Phyllis.

Doug - I did work pretty closely with Craig on the Searles piece but the design really was his. As well done as that piece is, you can see the progress Craig has made in the intervening years between that one and the ivory bowie. With the name hidden, that knife could pass for the work of any number of Master Smiths. Murray has captured the hamon far better than I could hope to (and I tried!) but the real thing is of a magnitude more impressive yet.

Murray's only problem now will be finding the right spot to display this center-piece knife.

Roger

I have liked an awful lot of the knives I have seen from Craig. This is one that I like very much. The ivory looks great. The guard is different than what you normally see. The blade is outstanding and I find that the sheath finishes off the package very well.

The thing I like most about Craig's knives is that he add just enough details without getting overly fancy (or expensive!)

Roger,
Thanks for responding.Yes,I can see the progress, although I don't know how many years were in between.
Hoping it's OK to say, when I first saw the Mammoth Ivory Bowie I thought Hanson.Don.Sunfishman.
I believe Don is using W2 now as well in some of his Bowie's.
All three are just so very nice!
Can't even remember how many times I've looked at the choil on the Searles.

Hi Guys,

You are all too kind. I believe the time preiod between the three knives is roughly about a 3 to 3 1/2 year span. I am just running from memory but that seems about right. The mammoth ivory handled bowie is one of my favorites that I have completed so far. It was one of them that everything just seemed to come together on while I was working on it.

Murray I must congratulate you on the pictures! I really like the way that you have added the differnt features of the knife tot he pic.

Thanks,

Craig
