Dave, first off nice work, that thing is a beast! Looks like you put a lot of thought into the design. The guard looks like it will protect
your hand from sliding forward onto the blade when stabbing, the balance point isn't so far forward as to make it a "slash only" type
of fighter-looks like it will chop just fine. I really like the sharpened clip,(especially in a reversed grip application), and the "skull crusher"
pommel (or as my old instructor says "thumb taker) is spot on.It appears to be comfortable in the hand, maybe a little too much swell...
All in all I say well executed blade.
Feel free to send it to me for proper testing :D

Very nice work! Looks like it's very well made! I like your sheath too (wooden frame, uh!). Nice blade finish.

That being said, I would've prefered a slightly smaller guard, and because of the top guard, I question the usability of the finger sized-choil (could be wrong there - hard to say with just the pics)
The blocky handle would be a deal breaker for me, sadly.

Thanks for showing it!

Thank you for the honest critique. I agree that the handle material itself is not the most attractive choice, and while I personally prefer flat sided handles for large blades(combats rotation in the hand) I completely understand that most other do not prefer that, and it can make for a "ugly" handle.

Good materials
Nice profile except the lower guard is a bit long, handle looks to CS Spartanish
If the handle profile was changed and a shorter lower guard it would be spot on just my 02cents

I was thinking the same about the guard. To me it almost looks like they are backwards, where the longer one should be guarding the wrist, and the shorter one over the index finger. The handles can still be essentially flat, but with some contouring. They would still sit with the blad positioning correctly, but allow a more comfortable grip. This is a great looking blade and those are the only things I can see that I would change.

Nice piece!

Perhaps if the top guard were as long as the bottom guard, do you feel that would be better? I will be making this model again but it will be a hidden tang with a fitted guard, and I don't personally like short/small guards on fighters, so maybe if the top guard were "longer" maybe...?

As defaultuser mentioned, the large choil is not particularly useful due to the top guard, at first I had a much smaller choil around 1/4" and it just wasn't working for me (looked weird IMO). As for that I never had any utility work in mind for this blade, just a full fledged fighting knife. Thank you all for the comments and critiques again.

That ones a looker too Dave. You do nice work sir. Oddly enough on the second one the guard looks perfect to me. I am thinking that maybe thats about it being beefier. Not sure but it looks great.
Dont want you thinking I dislike the first one either. Its a great piece of work.

I like it a lot. Maybe round out or make less severe the "hook" in the rear of the grip/handle.

That is quite alright, I posted it here to receive honest critiques good or bad. Yeah the beefier A2 blade w/ stainless bolsters weighed almost if not more than twice what the 3V blade weighed. I don't think all of that extra weight makes for a good fighter.

I do agree though that the guard looks a little better proportioned on the heftier knife.
