Large Dyad suggestion

Spyderco crew,

I don't know how far along in the design or even preproduction stage you are at with the large Dyad, but I thought I'd throw you a couple of my suggestions.

I think that an extra set of pocket clip screw holes on the opposite side&end of the handle would be great. This would allow for the user to define which blade style is their primary one from the draw. I personally don't think that it would affect the aesthetics too much for the sake of solid function.

Second, I saw that micarta is the handle material. I've noticed that the beadblast finish micarta like on the Shabaria resists those small scratches/striations much better that the high gloss finish. Although the lusterous finish has a classier look, a black beadblast micarta handle would probably be better suited for this model.

Thanks,
Ken

Cool! I always thought that they sould make a large Dyad, glad to hear its being worked on. BY the way I think this would be a good knife to market to the fire/resque community. This is how I earn my living and think it would be an excellant choice. How ever please don't focus on cutting seat belts! Why? 1. newer cars don't have the release between the door and the seat so you just don,t come across releases you can't reach #2.Inside a car with victims and other resquers, the last thing you want in that tight space is a razor sharp anything, thats why every firetruck and ambulance have several pair of blunt tipped ems shears in their bags.#3 victims bleed and you have to clean the blood off your cutting intsruments, which would you rather clean a strangers blood off of, a blunt tipped pair of pretty dull shears or a razor sharp spyderco? Me too. I'm not saying that once in a while a seatbelt does"t need to be cut, I'm just saying we use our knives for alot more for other things and that ther are better tools for cutting seatbelts.

Ken - full sized Dyad (with bead blasted micarta) should be out in the next 30 days. I've been carrying a production sample for about 2 weeks.

At this time, only one set of clip holes.

Sal,
That's great news, I'll be waiting for them to become available. I do hope however, that you consider the extra clip holes later on down the line.

Thanks,
Ken

Is the usual carry tip up or down

Ferret - The usual position is tip down for the serrated rescue blade as the immediate blade.

Sorry Sal, feeble attempt at facetious humour. I'll work harder on my material

Ferret - Sorry. Forgot who I was dealing with.

The rescue blade is tip down and the down under blade is tip up.

Don't worry that the world might end tomorrow....in Australia it's tomorrow already.

What are the blade lengths on this larger Dyad? I don't see it listed on the Spyderco web site.

Thanks,

That does it Clay, I'm not bringing the Lum on Sunday, just 2 doz Spydercopies

Frank, lenghts are p/e-3 3/8", serr-3 3/4", and 4 5/8" closed.

Thanks! Didn't realize they were going to be that big. I figured they'd be in the 2 7/8ths range...

Frank - The Dyad is a lot of inches of cutting power in a relatively small package.

sal

DL - not in the immediate future, sorry. We'd like to have the model aout in the "real world" for a while to see ELU reaction or possible agdustments.

Sounds like a very nice package, Sal; my only issue was that the blades are a bit long for Michigan carry. Hard to picture a LEO getting too upset with a folder that has two blades. Certainly makes it look more "toolish" than threatening.

Is the overall closed length about the same as a Native?

Thanks much,

Frank - The Dyad is larger than the Native closed. I don't have one with me, but I would put overall length aboutthe same as a Rescue.
