This is the third knife I have made for this gentleman. The first two were Scottish dirks. All of them were made using seat bracket steel, that came from old farm machinery on the customer's grand father's farm. The wood for the handle came from the farm as well. Since the steel type was unknown, I quenched the entire blade in fast oil. Parks 50. There was no clay used, the hamon was volunteer.
The knife is 16 inches tip to butt.

Happy grinding, Fred

Very good looking piece. I'd love to have an heirloom quality piece like that from my grandfathers equipment (if I had had the foresight to grab some steel from his farm....)
