Large fixed blade suggestions

I'm looking for a 9"-12" bladed fixed blade. I own a Fherman Final Judgement, and I like it enough that I was going to buy another one, in satin. (Mine is coated). I like the Extreme Judgment better, because the blade is wider. I just like the convenience of sharpening a straight edge better.

Anyway, if you guys/ gals have any suggestions for a large fixed blade in the 9"-12" range, I'm all ears, and will appreciate it.

One more criteria would be that the knife price is maxing out at the 500-600 dollar range. That's my upper limit.

Other than that, it's obvious use will be a knife used in the wilderness. I have plenty of machetes, so those are out.

Scott Gossman Mother Tusker, a larger NWA Woodsman or a ESEE Junglas . Then you'll have gas money left over to get to the wilderness!

A Scott Gossman/ Estella Bolo, or a Kukri of some kind if you want to get max chopping ability.

Buy a Kukri from HI, then with the other 75% of your budget find a nice 3-4-inch hunting knife for smaller work.

ML knives for a larger Hudson bay knife for about 245.00, his quality is top notch. The regular knife is heavy enough but you may even want to go for 3/16 at 1 3/4 wide profile. That would make it have a good belly and good point work. That is just me since I like more traditional looking knives. Save the dough for extra euipment, as mentioned, maybe for a smaller utility knife to go along with it.

I tried to show a picture of it, no luck, but you can see similar Hudson bays on his site at ML knives, look under the special order page two, and scroll down. Also you can see alot of his work in the past work sections.

I do not mean that sarcastically, and I know there is a great following for Busse. Is INFI also used for Scrapyard and Swamprat?

I think they use 52100 for at least one of those companies, although they call it SR101 for some reason. INFI decisions are going to have to be your decision. Is it the best steel on the market? Possibly. Is it worth the price? That's up to you. The difference between it, and many other top cutlery steels, may not effectively really be all that much, especially if you aren't the type to abuse a knife.

I wonder what the OP decided to do...

Is INFI relly that good?

I like INFI. I have had two of the first 300 Battle Mistresses ever made, the original Satin Jack, 2 FBM's, and a birds beak Steel Heart. (Although that was ATS-34 and rusted like crazy). A few others, I do like CPM 3V better but INFI is my second choice for large blades.

The O.P. is still looking. I know him really well.
