I'd like reccomendations for large fixed blades
ones that I am looking at have a 7" blade
I would like something with a 6-9" blade

I have two knives that I am currently considering

Strider MTL
and
Chris Reeve's Green Beret in 7"

I prefer the tactical look, over the traditional bowie look

anything else I should look at? I would like to spend at most $400

Both are great, I have both , Busse Steel Heart rock's.Reeve Project one ,Nexus 7 is pretty cool , you may still find one.$400 you can go custom allso. good luck:D What are you looking to do with it ?

There are so many to choose from that it's staggering.

I bet Justin Gingrich of Ranger Knives could hook you up with a great custom-made fixed blade at or even well below your price cap. He's well known to most of us for his priced-to-own Ready Detachment series, but his custom knives range from the ultra-modern to very traditional.

Here's a recent bowie he made for KenN:

Here's a 3V bowie-ish knife he made beside one of his standard RD-9 knives (before the RD series became fully flat ground):

Take a look at Chris Reeve's Neil Roberts Warrior knife. Very nice looking with a slight recurve. Also, Dozier's custom tactical fixed blades. You have a choice of handle material and also, I believe, blade steel. He has excellent D2but I ordered a couple with S30V. S30V heat treat was good; no problems with chipping. Fit and finish on the Roberts and Doziers are excellent.

Dan,
I will second the Neil Roberts. I have 2, one to carry and one still NIB. Great knive and you can't beat Chris Reeve customer service.

The Fallkniven A2 has an 8" blade of laminated VG-10 that hold an edge for a very long time and convex ground too.

Anything from Bob Dozier is going to be TOP QUALITY without a doubt.

The Fehyman (spelling?) has a life time guarantee.

The BK&T BK-9 is a lot less then $400 and it comes with a pouch sheath too.

There is a whole world of great knives to choose from. Good luck!

That is one I was looking at too

kbog, thanks for the links...some nice stuff there

The Fusion Battle Mistress is supposed to be made available after the war boar, if you can wait a little while. . .;)

The Green Beret or the Neil Roberts Warrior are excellent choices. They're 2 new ones for sale right now on the board! ;)

Timberline Zambezi for a 6" is a great knife.
Kabar D2 extreme fighting knife is a great 7"er.
Ontario Sp-6 is a light 8" rib-tickler.
Fehrman's look amazing too.
You gotta decide on it's main pupose of utility or killing?
