Large Folders

It has been my mission recently to grab some of the biggest, upper end production, built-like-a-tank folders. I have satisfied my hunger for the time being....the only glaring whole is of course the strider AR and the Blackwood custom Skirmish, but the knife fund is empty. The AR is next in line, and I may have to dream about the Blackwood for a few years.
What do you guys think? Any other heavy duty large folders that would fit into this line up?
Lonewolf-10.7 OAL
BM 630 -9.7
Al Mar Wortac Auto- 9.5
BM 805 TSEk - 9.36
Spyderco Manix - 8.75
Al Mar Sere 2k - 8.5
Large Wood inlay Sebbie- 8.5

While I wouldn't call it "heavy-duty", the Cold Steel Vaquero Grande and 2X Voyager are MONSTERS! The Cold Steel Gunsite is also a big one.

What about the Cuda Maxx 7.0? doesnt get any bigger. ;) I have one in my pocket right now.
(15 inches long when open) :D

not 'upper end', but a well-designed well-built large folder nonetheless, check out the CRKT M21-04. 9.5" overall and pretty heavy duty. for around $40-45ish it would make an inexpensive addition to your collection.

That darn Lone Wolf is a monster. It is a very well made knife. I was lucky enough to snag one with the micarta slabs. I would hate to see a more solid folder than this one. It is easily on par with the Sebbie as far as construction.

I agree with Glockman. The Cold Steel xlarge Vaquero I have is a beast. It may not be the toughest or best edge keeping knife on the planet for the money it is a good user and it sure is an intimidating looking thing when whipped out. It is also one of my favorite yard tools for taking out small branches and foilage. In some intances it makes short work of stuff and saves me having to get out a weed eater.

I think you've got some mighty nice knives there!!

I'd recommend two more:
  • Columbia River M16-14 or M16-04 "Big Dog". As I told someone a while back, it's a good choice for filletting a Buick.
  • Columbia River Crawford/Kasper KFF Large, particlarly the aluminum-scaled Pro version. Another serious tank of a knife.

Yeah, there's quite a few actually.
What about a Camillus Maxx?
There's also the Emerson Bowie or Commander.

Rat Trap. 3.9" blade, 9" OAL.
Here's a pic next to my Camp Tramp and INFIcoot

Swamp Rat Rat Trap
Emerson Super CQC-7
Emerson CQC-11
Spyderco Police
Spyderco Military
Cuda Maxx

And if you've got the scratch to get one,
Rekat SIFU

Nice collection!

Probably the best "folding crowbar's" I've owned are the Extrema Ratio folders.

All of my tactical folders are of the larger variety and I've experimented with a lot of them to fine tune my stash.

The ER's are not going to excel at cutting but I have yet to see one more overbuilt, including the AR. (which kick's butt too BTW)

I would also suggest trying to get an original Chinook. That knife has decent cutting ability and is almost as overbuilt as the ER's.

IMO a folding knife that is way overbuilt is begging to be used for some minor prying tasks. Prying and liner locks are not a good combo so i would consider adding some more lock backs.

I'll echo what others have said with the Big CS Voyagers. They may not be as durable as a non FRN folder but you'd be hard pressed to kill one with 99% of what you'll do with a folder.

If you decide to try an OTF automatic you can't beat a MT Scarab. It's the Sebenza of OTF's.

The Lone Wolf's are sweet! Here's one I customized a while back.

Moral of the story: There are a lot of options in overbuilt big folders these days, much more than there were 4-5 years ago. If you want to sample them all get ready to pay ;)

lots of good ones listed but would pass on a REKAT sifu unless ya want it for collecting purposes only the lock on them has a lot of problems and no ones fixing them right now anyway. cammilus maxx is 2X the knife anyway, better steel in most models (D2, only limited production sifu has D2), a lot lot lot better lock, thinner and carries better, probably cheaper.

another large knife which is a custom is the crawford perfigo, 4.5" blade, ti handles, i have one and really like it.

the surefire alpha is also pretty nice, probably priced a little too high imho, $300, but a nice 1 nontheless.

also like the 806 BM AFCK better than the TSEK, i like the hole FWIW lol. both are good knives though have always liked the AFCK line myself.

No one's mentioned Cutter knife and tool.
I don't remember off hand, but those are pretty big aren't they?
and now that I think of it, Bobby Branton makes a Brend folder as well.
