Your pretty green so it is all good, welcome to the forum by the way. The Military is one of my favorite large folders. I love the Sifu but I dont really carry it. The Manix is nice, Al Mar Sere, BM has the New De Javoo which is a somewhat large folder. Also what do you mean by large? Do you mean thick and stout? or long? or a combination of all them? What lock do you prefer? Liner, backlock, axis, roll, frame? Any handle material preference? Blade size, shape, grind preference? Steel preference?

Welcome to the Forum.I also like the police model, but I like a thicker blade.
The Kershaw Storm or the Large Cold Steel Voyager are good blades also.

SOG "elite" series (spec elite, pentagon elite), any of the large cold steel folders (they make folders with 6" blades...that's big), spyderco civilian is big too but is really specialized.

Large folders can do some jobs better than smaller folders, but not so many as to carry them exclusively.

I really like Cold Steel's Vaquero Grande folder. 6" long, flat-ground blade with a recurve and pointy tip and those serrations (especially when combined with the recurve) make it easy to slice foliage from a distance. For Spyderco Police-sized folders, the Atlantic Salt (also by Spyderco) and the Endura are really good buys. A large hawkbilled knife, the Spyderco Superhawk, should be out soon, too.

I like larger folders in the summer when I'm outside a lot. For one they offer a lot more leverage and cutting power when you need to do certain jobs outdoors like cut back branches and shrubs and stuff like that. You know stuff you'd be there for quite a while with if you had a smaller knife. Otherwise I usually carry one not any longer than 4" closed most of the time.

Summer is khukuri-weather! Spring and Fall are for folders.

thom you rarely fail to crack me up. :)
I was having a rather crappy evening when I read that and
just started laughing.
thanks!

back to the thread....
My favorite 4" folder is the BM 710 D2.
My favorite 3"ish hard use folder is the Kershaw Mini-Cyclone.

I like both because of ergonomics, great steels and overall
great designs.

Check out the SE Endura in ZDP-189. It's like a folding chain saw! Normally not one for SE blades but this was one I couldn't resist. This one is a premier box cutter. It's really that nice.

Here's a nice 9" SAK, kinda on the pricey side but it's definitely a large folder...

obviously, by my name, the kershaw offset is pretty nice. for all of you guys who will harp on its blade steel being crap, dont. just visit the kershaw knives news thread and look around the 35-37 page range and see what i mean. the blade will get better. also the BM rukus. nice knife. played with one at a knife show couple of days ago. not as big as i thought, but still good size

Can`t think of anything similar, but if you want to upgrade, the Rukus 610 is a solid knife, with a good lock.

if similar is what you want the BM AFCK was basically designed to be a beefier version of the spyderco police.

Are there any other kind?!?;) I rotate between four folders and all are 4.0" to 4.25" in blade length. BM 610 Rukus, RJ Martin Devastator, RJ Martin Tanto Devastator (just arrived TODAY!), and a Reverance by DMK. Of course, for my needs I end up using my Case Barlow for 99% of jobs! I like to carry the large folder because I can and because I'm just a plain ole knife knut!! :D
