Don't see these talked about much here but it is a pattern I do like. These are the large coke bottle pattern hunters, made predominantly by American companies I think. I got a Rough Rider in a grab bag of seconds last year and this week bought an *OLCUT* Union Cutlery (later became KaBar) from a forum member. These are very thin knives given their size. Only 3/8 of an inch thick this knife is 5 3/8 closed and 9 1/2 inches open with a 4 1/8 inch blade. Due to it's thin cross section it is lighter than expected and goes well in the back pocket. My Rough Rider is jigged bone but the Union is traditional MOTS, also called cracked ice or french pearl. I cleaned it up (no, I am not the one who removed metal...I just used Flitz and elbow grease to polish lightly) and took just a few strokes on my Spyderco Tri-angle to obtain a razor edge. Walk and talk is great on this knife...lot's of snap open and closed. I can easily see myself becoming a big fan of the pattern.
Anyone else out there falling for this pattern?
The first two pics show the *OLCUT* next to the Rough Rider for comparison.
