Okay you guys have convinced me that it just isn't worth taking the risk with a Mountain Man but how about this Boker. Anyone got information about it or about Bokers in general?? I'm posting it here in hopes of getting to a broader unbaised audience than if I posted it in the Boker sub forum. Thanks

There very good looking knives,I have the same knife with buffalo horn handles in 440c,I paid quite a bit more for mine $160,back before I got a computer:o

I havn't used mine much at all but the horn has a big chip (starting at the middle pin) and the fit and finish isn't what I'd expect at that price.I called them about the handle and fit and was told that horn was a natural material and could be expected to chip, and that if I wanted a perfectly asembled knife I should buy a custom,NO JOKE!I was looking at the knife awhile back and decided to email them,no response.

I seem to have bad luck when ordering german knives, and Im sure boker has some very pleased customers, but IMHO and in my experiance I would either buy form a store where I could handle the knife first or be prepared to return the knife for a replacement if it wasn't up to snuff.

I also have a henkel, made by boker I presume ,same patern with redbone handles and brass bolsters, which was much less and Im more happy with it's well made exept for a weak snap when closing,I believe BudK has them now for around $30.

I would like to here others opinions on them as well.As Im sure not everyone has had as bad of luck as me.

I do believe that Ag russell carries that exact knife as well. I am very curious about that knife as well.

I bought a medium size Boker lockback not too long ago and my impression was similar ... not very impressed by the overall build quality.

About a month or so ago I bought this Schatt Sway Belly Trapper. I know it's not a Mountain Man , but it is a large two blade trapper and I can definitely recommend it. I actually prefer the "Golden Root" scales , but I couldn't find one at the time. Golden Root has more of a stag look.

Lotoblades, how does the Boker carry in the pocket? Is it too bulky for a comfortable carry?

JPD how big is the trapper?

To me it's alittle to big for pocket carry, maybe not for a walk in the woods but definitly bigger than I like for edc.Though the shape and size is somewhat different,to me it carries alot like a buck 112.

Thanks, sounds like the perfect size for me. Let's see what else we can find out about the Boker first.
