I recently purchased a doug ritter m4 griptilian (still on backorder). i seen a video that posted it opened.

my question is has any1 ever had problems considering it only has partial liners? what's funny is the mini looks like it has larger liners then the reg size. usually all my knives are full liners and this is freaking me out alittle. has any1 used or beat on their griptilian and had any problems with the partial liners or the handle after hard use?

The mini and the full both use the same liners, that's why they look bigger in the mini's smaller handle.

I've never had a problem with the liners in a Griptilian failing.

I'll be honest, I've never beat on my Grip. But it seems like compared to every other folder I have ever seen, (even a Chris Reeve Sebenza framelock) that the Griptilian could take more abuse than anything else out there.

Keep in mind, I am basing this only on feel, not having tried it.

Aside from the fact that it's more of a pain to re-handle, I don't mind the partial liners. With carbon fiber or G10 handle slabs, the knife feels as solid as many of mine with full liners. The flimsy handle feeling comes from the hollow FRN, not the small liners.

Sorry Bear Claw Chris Lappe. The big griptilian and the mini do not use the same liner. The mini has a full liner and the big grip has a partial liner, at least mine do and I own 8 griptilians. :)

Chris could be on to something. Think about it, the mini is much smaller knife? Same liner - in the full size grip it only covers part of the scale, but in a mini grip it covers the whole scale. I don't have a mini to verify but it certainly seems plausible.

I think Chris what meant, is that they use exact same liners and because of their size they run full length on the mini and are partial on the full size.

Oh, and ask him to post a pic of his Griptilian collection :D :D :D

The liner is shaped differently and is not the same liner. I just looked at both with a flashlight and they are completely different.:)

For you RxEnergy. Have you ever been on the benchmade forum?:D

I've had several grips and they have always shown themselves to be quite sturdy. No reason to have doubts about your coming knife.

Has anyone ever had their Grips re-handled to G-10 & how much did it cost?

Glass filled nylon mean stiff enough to not bend, and flexible enough to not break. It's probably tougher than G10.

I believe so :D
I've seen those pics, they are GREAT!
But I was talking about Chris' collection here, don't know if he still has 'em, but last time he posted the pics there were about two dozens of Grips IIRC ;)

I'd have a hard time believing that FRN is tougher or stronger than G10. G10 contains considerably more fiberglass than fiberglass-reinforced polyamide (as evidenced by its density). Additionally, the fiberglass in G10 is woven, not chopped up as it is in FRN. There's a reason that engineers use costly woven laminates in demanding applications.

G10 is also noticeably stiffer than FRN, just as carbon fiber is noticeably stiffer than G10.

All of this is pretty academic, though. Any of these materials are plenty strong for knife handle applications. It all comes down to feel and appearance. Many people (myself included) don't like the feel of FRN scales. That's why my Ritter grip is handled in carbon fiber (I chose CF over G10 purely for looks).

Im more interested to know if anyone has done any heavy batoning with their griptilians.

phillp do u make custom handles for the grip? if so give me someway to get in touch with your so we can discuss option and cost.

so has any1 beat the crap out of the grip? i know most people say it feels solid but i want to know if it can acually take abuse?

and if u watch the video i posted the liners on the mini are just as long but fatter hence making them bigger.

i wonder if the ritter blade would fit on one of the new bone collector handles... it's basically a grip with g10 handles and full liners
