hello, I've been looking around for a new knife for a while now. I can't find much that fits everything I need.

-High value ~$200
-Frame lock or thick liner lock
-Medium - large size ~3.5"-4"
-good ergonomics, good edc

the ZT300 is the perfect knife for me but it's just too menacing. If it had a stonewashed/satin blade and non assist I'd have my grail knife.

any ideas?

It's not a frame lock, but the Benchmade 710 is a hard use, tank of a knife that has a very classic, elegant look. It's a big knife, but it certainly won't scare anyone if you're worried about that.

I carried one daily for over three years. Great knife.

BM 790 Subrosa is a nice option:

I like the benchmade Dejavoo. It is a very capable gentleman's folder.

Have you considered carrying a vic classic for using around weirdos, or just telling them to go screw if they don't like your knife?

fits every one of your qualifications except it's maybe $70 under budget

Orange Military is probably the biggest knife you can pocket and not scare the sheeple (well, less sheeple, anyway). Orange is well-recognized as a "safety" or "rescue" color. Utility blades/box cutters are often bright colors like orange or yellow as well. People are more likely to subconsciously associate an orange handled knife as "tool" rather than "weapon", at least moreso than a black handled knife.

If the Military is too large for your tastes, check out the (orange) Bladetech Pro-Hunter Magnum. G-10 linerlock, 3 5/8" S30V blade.

I like that subrosa a lot, but it's assisted.

that CF spyderco looks nice but I'd rather have US made if possible

how much of the military sticks out of your pocket?

Though I've never had it, the Spyderco Gayle Bradley gets very good reviews with little to nothing negative being written about it.:D

zt200? non assist with large 154cm blade. good ergo but little bit heavy for some tho.
just put some paint stripper or something on the blade finish. i just handrubbed the coating off a couple of my kershaw knives that got scratched during sharpening. came out high satin polished and looks good for now. i wasnt sure how it would come out, but since it got scratched up i decided to just go for it and am glad i did.

probably going to do the same to the rest of my used kershaws now i know how it turns out.

Hogue EX01 3.5" or 4" in G-Mascus
Spyderco Military
Spyderco Gayle Bradley

I'm loving the Hogues:

Knifeworks has a exclusive deal with ZT and has the ZT0200 in an uncoated blade, for the same price as the coated version.

An inch or less. Right under the pivot and above are all that stick out of pocket. You can grab the Spyderhole out of pocket since it's tip down, making deployment faster than most autos or balisongs if you Spyder drop it. I really like the orange Millie. It's a huge knife (9.5" open), only weighs 4.2oz, disappears in pocket, Sal stated the lock is rated 550lb/inch (4" blade, 2200lbs for lock failure), and I've never had an issue using it in public despite it's nasty size and shape.

Here's the thread with Sal's numbers for the Millie lock. Towards the bottom of the first page: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=768966

Depends where you live. I'm near DC. Everything I carry scares people even my 3" wharncliffe Sypderco Centofante. I now carry a sub-2" Lava.

I would get what you want as long as it's legal. That said, Spyderco military would be my suggestion. Controlled, slow opening helps to not scare people and the spyderhole is good for that.

I'm not sure if considered HD but wire-clip Spydies like the sage II or Caly would be another option.

I have been EDC an Ivory Micarta one for over a year and really like the knife.

Solid well built folder, smooth blade deployment, very comfortable in the hand, and traditional styling.

Probably prices in a bit above your $200 price point though.

I think that plain blade 0200 is quite fetching, although it's quite massive and has I think the public will see recurves as scarier.

The benchmade 710 is always a good place to go because it's large, advanced and yet has a bit of that Case pocket knife feel (to me anyway, I guess).

Anything with wood on it is a nice place to start.

The MUDD may not be that bad an idea either. It doesn't look evil and the blade is quite standard.but definitely HD.
